General Position Summary:  The Inventory & Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for leading the organization's procurement, inventory management, and material control functions to ensure the uninterrupted flow of materials required to support manufacturing operations. This position drives purchasing excellence, inventory accuracy, supplier performance, and continuous improvement of material management processes while optimizing working capital and supporting operational objectives related to cost, quality, delivery, and service.



This role serves as the primary link between Supply Chain, Operations, Production Planning, Engineering, Finance, and Suppliers to ensure materials are available when needed while minimizing excess inventory and waste.

Essential Duties:

  • Lead all procurement activities to ensure timely, cost-effective acquisition of direct and indirect materials.
  • Establish strong supplier relationships focused on quality, delivery performance, cost competitiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor supplier performance through key metrics including:
    • On-Time Delivery
    • Quality Performance
    • Cost Competitiveness
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels that support production while minimizing excess inventory and carrying costs.
  • Establish inventory policies including:
    • Safety stock
    • Min/Max levels
    • Reorder points
    • Kanban opportunities
    • Create and manage inventory cycle counting schedule.
  • Develop and improve material management processes that increase inventory accuracy, material availability, and operational efficiency.
    • Coordinate material flow from receiving through warehouse storage and production consumption.
    • Manage the material handler daily responsibilities.
    • Improve warehouse organization and material handling processes.
    • Standardize material replenishment practices supporting manufacturing operations.
    • Ensure accurate material transactions within the ERP system.
    • Collaborate with Production Planning to proactively identify material shortages.
    • Analyze materials needed for work orders.
  • Attend and take part in regular production and like meetings (i.e., scrap and variance meetings).
  • Ensure prompt and correct updating of the computer systems.
  • Purchase maintenance and factory supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with the proper team members to decide costs and supply needs for production (i.e., cost increases from suppliers, obtain copper and other vital production articles).
  • Buy supplies that are critical for the success of business operations.
  • Monitor obsolete materials.
  • Keep detailed records on procurement activity, materials quantity, specifications etc.
  • Maintain compliance with all Marmon IEI environmental, Health and Safety policies
  • Support and take part in Lean/5S and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support activities within compliance to ISO Quality System procedures.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of the Planner and or Other roles as needed
  • Work as a team with peers, managers and Marmon IEI employees.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Associate degree in related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of production planning office experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of applicable purchasing laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to read and interpret production and materials reports.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory processes and cycle counts.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic, statistics, and other specific mathematical applications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, in writing and interpersonally.
  • Solid knowledge in Microsoft applications and applicable production applications.
  • Must be able to multi-task, follow priorities given, and have strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Self-starter: ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
