The Role:
At present, the University manages over 6,000 hall places for undergraduate students and close to 1,500 places for postgraduate students on campus. It also manages off-campus housing, including over 500 beds in the Tseung Kwan O hostel, and operates a service to help students arrange their own private housing. The Student Housing & Residential Life Office (SHRLO), under the Dean of Students’ Office (DSTO), is seeking a high-calibre Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the mission to enrich the residential and community life experience of all university residents.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Dean of Students and the Head of Student Housing & Residential Life, the appointee will assume the following duties:
- Lead, align, and manage diverse teams, including the Central Administration Team and sections of the Residential/Operations Team. Unify and lead individual hall assistant managers across different residential halls, establishing consistent operational standards, administrative policies, and student service levels. Direct daily student accommodation operations and drive the development of impactful residential education programs.
- Oversee the office’s daily administration, personnel management, procurement, and tendering procedures related to student housing operations. Supervise and maintain the university's specialized Hall Management Systems.
- Supervise operational, ancillary, and outsourced estate management staff to ensure high-quality service delivery. Provide direct mentorship, coaching, and escalation support to subordinate staff to confidently handle student incidents, crises, and emergencies.
- Conduct high-level liaison work with other University offices, external vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Drive new departmental projects and initiatives as assigned by the Dean of Students or their delegates as appropriate.
Occasional work outside of normal office hours will be required to handle emergencies or peak operational periods.
Qualifications & Attributes:
- A recognized university degree with at least 7 years of relevant post-qualification work experience, preferably within a student housing, residential life, or student services setting.
- Proficiency or hands-on experience in utilizing computer systems, database software, or AI tools to streamline administrative workflows and daily operations will be advantageous.
- Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and developing subordinates, specifically in driving collaboration and consistency among decentralized hall management offices. Strong decision-making capabilities with a high level of emotional intelligence and crisis-management skills.
- Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including fluency in Putonghua).
Shortlisted candidates may be invited to attend a written test. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
Review of applications will begin on Wednesday, 12 August 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.
