Description
Level 2 IT Engineer | abtec Managed IT | Bolton (BL5 3AJ) | £28k - £32k
If you want to get out of the office and actually get your hands dirty - this one's for you.
abtec Managed IT has been doing this for 30 years. We're a Microsoft Gold Partner. We work with schools, colleges, multi-academy trusts, and private sector clients across the Northwest.
Our clients stay. Our team stays. Some of the team have been here 20+ years. When you show up on-site, people are genuinely pleased to see you. That's not a happy coincidence - it's how we've built this.
What the job actually looks like
This is not a desk job. Once you're up to speed, you'll be out on client sites up to four days a week. The rest of the time you're on the service desk at the brand new Pavilion West office (BL5 3AJ) - natural light, great facilities, easy M61 access.
Day to day: 2nd line support tickets, IMACs across client sites, infrastructure projects you'll see through from start to finish, and mentoring newer team members as you grow into the role.
Tech stack: Microsoft 365 and Azure | Sophos | JAMF and Intune | Ruckus Wireless | VOIP | Windows Server | Networking fundamentals
What we're looking for
- 2-3 years in a genuine 2nd line support role
- Hands-on M365, Azure, and Active Directory - non-negotiable; you must have plenty of experience within these kinds of environments
- An MSP background OR experience as the solo or small-team IT person in a busy company - if you've had to handle everything yourself and make the calls, you'll fit right in here
- Full UK driving licence - you'll be on-site regularly
- Windows Server, networking, and standard infrastructure experience
- Someone who takes ownership and sees problems through
Experience in the education sector is a bonus, not a barrier.
What you get
- £28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience
- Private medical (BUPA) including pre-existing conditions, with option to add family
- Death in service - 12 months salary
- 21 days + bank holidays + birthday off + 1 day per year of service (up to 25)
- All certifications paid for + dedicated study time in your schedule
- Salary increases tied to certs you achieve
- Free parking at the new office
Asking questions is encouraged here. That's how the team works. People stay because they want to - some for 20+ years.
