Job Summary
The Caterpillar Drivetrain Team in Monterrey, Mexico, is seeking a Drivetrain Control and Simulation Engineer. This individual contributor role supports the concept, design, development, simulation and validation of transmission control systems using in-house simulation tools and Simulink.
The engineer will work under the guidance of experienced mechatronics engineers to build technical capability and contribute to drivetrain control and simulation activities.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and validation of transmission controls to ensure product requirements are achieved.
- Build, improve, and maintain simulation and control models in accordance with corporate modeling standards.
- Define test plans and validation conditions for components and systems.
- Apply standard work and automation processes to run simulations efficiently.
- Participate in design reviews to share results and incorporate feedback from process partners.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
- At least four years of experience in drivetrain systems design, development, modeling, or simulation.
Skill the candidate should have
- Expert in Python and/or MATLAB scripting.
- Working knowledge of Git, Ivy, and engineering data management tools.
- Experience with transmission software virtual calibration validation.
- Expert in applying analysis tools and methodologies to identify root causes, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and develop practical solutions.
- Expert in data analysis and visualization using DATK, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
- Expert in resolving complex system integration and validation challenges through structured problem-solving techniques.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments while collaborating effectively across teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Ability to communicate technical direction, validation results, risks, and project status to diverse stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of presentation and communication techniques to simplify complex technical concepts for various audiences.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and customer focus.
- Expert in assessing technical risk, prioritizing work, and making sound engineering recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of powertrain and hydraulic systems, transmissions, gears.
- Working knowledge with control theory.
- Working knowledgewith software in the loop validation
- Working knowledgewith component, systems and machine level software integration
- Working knowledge with design of experiments, optimization, and robust design methods.
Additional Information
The location for this position is Santa Maria R&E, Center Monterrey, Mexico.
This position may require up to 20% travel, domestic and international.
