Job Description:

The Complex IBD program at Primary Children’s Hospital providers coordinated care for children, teens, and young adults with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) like Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis. We are seeking a highly motivated Registered Nurse (RN) who will be responsible for the coordination of care for the IBD patient. The RN is a key member of the multidisciplinary team who provides individual patient education, care management, and coordination of services across the continuum of care. This role is responsible for the clinic aspects of the patient including, but not limited to education, patient care coordination, research, data management, and program development.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate and manage the ongoing medical, surgical, nutritional, and psychosocial needs of patients enrolled in the Complex IBD Program.

  • Serve as a central point of contact for patients, families, providers, and community resources.

  • Provide age-appropriate education, care coordination, and support to pediatric patients and their caregivers.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to develop, implement, and update individualized plans of care.

  • Assess patient needs and advocate for patients and families across the continuum of care.

  • Facilitate communication between patients, families, healthcare providers, and external agencies.

  • Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment to support complex care management within established protocols.

  • Document patient care accurately, timely, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor patient outcomes and evaluate responses to interventions, revising plans of care as needed.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, process enhancements, and program development activities.

  • Support clinical research efforts, data collection, and outcome tracking initiatives.

  • Stay current on advances in IBD care through professional development, continuing education, and evidence-based practice.

  • Serve as a clinical resource and champion for program initiatives that improve patient outcomes and experiences.

  • Promote professional nursing practice while mentoring and supporting team members.

  • Maintain compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards of nursing practice.

Posting Specifics

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday

  • No weekends, holidays, evenings, or on-call responsibilities

  • Location: Primary Children's Hospital

  • May require travel between Salt Lake City and Lehi campuses

  • Experience Required: Minimum one year of licensed RN experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current RN license in the state of practice.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.

  • Additional practice-specific certifications as required by the clinical setting.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

Note: RNs with less than 12 months of RN experience prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their BSN within five years of their start date if applicable under Intermountain policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year or more of pediatric nursing experience in an inpatient, outpatient, specialty clinic, or care coordination setting.

  • Experience caring for patients with chronic or complex medical conditions.

  • Strong care coordination, patient education, and clinical assessment skills.

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.

  • BSN from an accredited nursing program.

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$35.22 - $53.29
