Job Summary
The Senior Insulation Technician is responsible for performing insulation and metal mechanic work during turbine exhaust outages, including the removal, fabrication, installation, and repair of insulation systems and aluminum lagging. This role supports GE 7FA exhaust diffuser outage projects by creating patterns, fabricating insulation blankets and pads, performing stud welding, and completing high-quality installations while adhering to safety, quality, and production requirements.
Project Details (Short-Term Assignment)
This is a temporary outage project running from October 20, 2026 through November 9, 2026 (approximately 3 weeks). Candidates must be available to work the full outage schedule.
- Project Duration: October 20, 2026 – November 9, 2026
- Location: OPC Effingham County (near Rincon, GA)
- Pay Rate: $24-$28 per hour based on experience
- Per Diem: $85 per day
- Schedule: 7 to 12-hour shifts throughout the outage
- Employment Type: Temporary / Project-Based

Key Responsibilities
- Remove existing ceramic insulation blankets and metal cladding while protecting studs, thermocouples, flex seals, and other components.
- Create insulation and metal patterns from exhaust diffusers and flex seals to support fabrication and installation activities.
- Cut, fabricate, and install ceramic insulation blankets, flex-seal pads, and metal components based on project specifications and field measurements.
- Perform stud welding using Talon, SureShot, Eagle, or similar capacitor discharge pin guns, and assist with drawn-arc stud replacement when required.
- Cut and sew insulation pads, inner blankets, and middle blankets from provided patterns.
- Install multi-layer ceramic blanket insulation systems and associated wall insulation components.
- Cut, fit, and install aluminum lagging, including gores, thermocouple covers, wall flashing, and related components.
- Install completed insulation pads and ensure all seams, joints, and closures are properly fitted and secured.
- Perform insulation and metal work safely and efficiently while working from scaffolding and elevated work platforms.
- Maintain quality workmanship and productivity throughout outage schedules and shutdown projects.
Qualifications
- Experience with turbine insulation, exhaust diffuser outages, or similar hard-insulation and metal mechanic work required.
- Ability to create insulation patterns and fabricate insulation and metal components from field measurements and templates.
- Experience operating stud welding equipment, including Talon, SureShot, Eagle, or similar pin guns; drawn-arc stud welding experience preferred.
- Ability to fabricate, cut, and sew insulation pads and blankets.
- Experience installing ceramic blanket insulation systems and aluminum lagging.
- Strong knowledge of insulation materials, metal fabrication techniques, and outage work practices.
- Ability to read and follow project specifications, drawings, and field instructions.
- Comfortable working at heights from scaffolding for extended shifts.
- Ability to work 7- to 12-hour shifts in industrial environments and meet outage deadlines.
- Reliable attendance and commitment to working the full outage schedule.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity in a fast-paced construction and maintenance environment.
