Platform Engineer - Application Platform

Want to influence the bigger picture? At Saab Common Tech we create the foundations for developing the company with software, data and AI, to create innovations that keep people and society safe. Together, we can truly make an impact – and your part matters.

Common Tech is at the centre of Saab's digital transformation. We build the shared platforms, capabilities and ways of working that enable software, data and AI development across the company. The solutions we create are used across Saab and help development teams move faster, work smarter and focus on delivering value. If you want to work where technology, transformation and real business impact meet, this is one of the most exciting places to be.

Your role

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who wants to be part of a large-scale transformation where modern platforms, automation and developer experience play a critical role. This is an opportunity to work hands-on with cloud-native technologies and help build the foundations that enable application teams to deliver software efficiently, securely, and at scale.

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be part of the team responsible for our Application Platform. The platform provides the capabilities, tooling, and services that enable development teams across the organisation to build, deploy, and operate applications efficiently and securely. Kubernetes is a core technology within the platform, and you will work extensively with the design, development, operation, and evolution of Kubernetes-based platform capabilities.

You will work with both existing and future platform services, focusing on automation, reliability, scalability, security, and developer experience. The role combines software-oriented infrastructure engineering with platform development and offers significant opportunities to influence the technical direction of our platform ecosystem.

Working closely with architects, developers, security specialists, and other engineering teams, you will help build and improve platform services that are secure, scalable, and easy to consume through self-service capabilities and well-defined interfaces.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, build, and evolve the Application Platform
• Drive automation initiatives and Infrastructure as Code practices
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, observability, and security
• Build and maintain tooling, integrations, and platform capabilities that enhance developer experience
• Contribute to the design and implementation of future platform services and architectures
• Support application teams adopting and consuming platform capabilities
• Collaborate with architects and stakeholders to align platform capabilities with technical and business needs

Your profile

We believe the right person for this role is curious, collaborative and eager to learn. You enjoy solving problems together with others and creating solutions that make a real difference for teams around you.

You do not need to know everything from day one. What matters most is that you enjoy working in fast moving and complex environments, are willing to take ownership and want to be part of Saab's ongoing transformation within software, data and AI.

What we are looking for:

• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container platforms
• Experience designing, building, and operating platform services
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools
• Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices
• Experience operating and improving business-critical platforms or services
• Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and platform engineering principles
• Strong communication skills in both Swedish and English
• Relevant education or equivalent work experience

It's a bonus if you also have:

• Experience building or working with Internal Developer Platforms (IDP)
• Experience working in hybrid Kubernetes environments
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and platform security
• Experience from large or complex organizations

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.

What you will be part of

Explore a wealth of possibilities. Take on challenges, create smart inventions, and grow beyond. This is a place for curious minds, brave pioneers, and everyone in between. Together, we achieve the extraordinary, each bringing our unique perspectives. Your part matters.
