About the Role
The Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for youth, families, visitors, vendors, and staff at Lawrence Hall's Northside campus. This position is responsible for managing front desk operations, operating the agency switchboard, coordinating mail and deliveries, maintaining office supplies, and providing administrative support to ensure efficient daily operations. The Receptionist plays a key role in creating a welcoming, professional, and trauma-informed environment while maintaining confidentiality and supporting the overall administrative functions of the agency.
What You'll Do
- Welcome youth, families, visitors, vendors, and callers in a professional, courteous, and trauma-informed manner.
- Operate a multi-line telephone system, answer inquiries, relay information, transfer calls, and take accurate messages.
- Manage incoming and outgoing mail, deliveries, and shipments.
- Maintain a clean, organized reception area and oversee office supply inventory and ordering processes.
- Provide administrative support, maintain records, and assist with document filing and organization.
- Maintain confidentiality and foster positive interactions with youth, families, staff, and community partners.
- Attend required meetings and trainings and perform other duties as assigned.
Who We're Looking For
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Accurate filing, typing, and general clerical skills.
- Computer proficiency and ability to learn new office technologies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional telephone etiquette and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and manage front desk operations with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively with youth, families, staff, visitors, and vendors in a diverse environment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to pass agency-required assessments, background screening, and drug screening.
Preferred
- Minimum six months of receptionist, administrative, or customer service experience.
- Experience working in a human services, nonprofit, healthcare, education, or similar environment.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices.
Position Requirements & Work Environment
- Location: Chicago, IL; on-site at Lawrence Hall's Northside Campus.
- Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, typing, filing, telephone use, and operation of standard office equipment. Ability to lift and distribute supplies and packages up to 25 pounds.
- Travel: Minimal travel required.
- Schedule: Full-time schedule during agency business hours with occasional flexibility as needed.
- Work Environment: Professional office setting with frequent interaction with youth, families, visitors, employees, vendors, and delivery personnel.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $18.85 - $20.95 per hour. Compensation is determined by a set base hourly rate with additional compensation considered based on relevant education and experience.
