Description

Description

First National Bank is seeking a highly motivated college intern to support the Marketing and Retail teams while helping evaluate and develop the Bank’s financial literacy resources. This internship combines hands-on experience in a branch setting with exposure to the Bank’s current financial literacy program, communications, and community outreach efforts. The Community Banking & Engagement Intern will learn how customers use banking products and services, observe how financial education is currently delivered, and contribute ideas and resources that make financial concepts practical, engaging, and accessible to a variety of audiences.

What’s in it for you?

  • Gain hands-on exposure to both retail banking and marketing within a community bank.
  • Learn how branch employees help customers understand deposit accounts, credit, digital banking, and other financial services.
  • See how the Bank develops, communicates, and delivers financial literacy content for customers and the community.
  • Build practical skills in research, writing, resource development, customer service, communication, and project management.

What will you do as an Intern?

  • Branch Experience: Spend time in a branch setting to observe branch operations, customer service, security practices, teller and banker responsibilities, and the customer experience.
  • Gain exposure to banking fundamentals, including deposit accounts, account opening and maintenance, debit cards, credit, consumer lending, transaction processing, balancing, fraud awareness, and digital banking services.
  • Financial Literacy Program Review: Work with the Marketing team to understand the Bank’s current financial literacy program, audiences, materials, communication methods, and community outreach efforts.
  • Review existing financial literacy resources and gather feedback from various team members to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Resource Development: Research financial education topics and help create or update clear, engaging resources such as presentations, handouts, quick-reference guides, activities, digital content, and facilitator materials.
  • Help tailor financial literacy content for different audiences, which may include students, young adults, families, customers, and community groups.
  • Ensure proposed materials use accurate, customer-friendly language and align with the Bank’s products, brand, service standards, and applicable review requirements.
  • Assist with planning or supporting financial literacy presentations, branch activities, community events, or outreach initiatives when available.
  • Organize project notes, source information, feedback, and draft materials, and present final recommendations or completed resources to the Marketing and Retail management teams.
  • Follow Bank policies and procedures regarding confidentiality, information security, customer information, marketing communications, and professional conduct.

Requirements

What will you need as an Intern?

  • To be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Completion of at least two years of college and current enrollment in a college or university program such as marketing, communications, business, finance, education, public relations, or another related field.
  • Availability of up to 40 hours per week during the summer months, beginning mid-May through mid-August. Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an interest in making financial information easy to understand.
  • Creative, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to research topics and develop polished resources.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn in both branch and office environments.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Canva. Familiarity with design or content-creation tools is helpful.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, receive feedback, and adapt materials for different audiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow information security and customer privacy requirements.

Why This Internship?

  • A cross-functional experience connecting customer-facing banking with marketing and community education.
  • Meaningful work developing financial literacy resources that can support customers and community audiences.
  • Practical insight into customer needs, bank products and services, brand communication, and educational content development.
  • Opportunities to connect academic learning with a final project that has a tangible outcome for the Bank.
