The People Capital Leader serves as the onsite People Capital leader for the Atlanta Braves’ North Port/Spring Training operations. This role provides hands-on People Capital support to leaders and employees while partnering closely with the VP, People Capital and Atlanta-based People Capital team.
This position requires a strong HR generalist with significant employee relations experience who can operate independently, exercise sound judgment and manage a broad range of People Capital matters. The People Capital Manager must be comfortable handling sensitive and complex employee matters, coaching leaders, identifying risk and knowing when to engage People Capital or Legal.
The role supports approximately 20 full-time employees, in addition to a larger population of part-time, seasonal and game-day employees across North Port operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee Relations & Investigations
- Serve as the primary onsite People Capital resource for employee relations matters.
- Independently manage employee complaints, workplace concerns and investigations, including gathering facts, conducting interviews, reviewing documentation and making recommendations.
- Provide guidance on performance concerns, corrective action, conflict resolution and other employee matters.
- Recognize potential legal, compliance or employee-relations risk and appropriately involve the VP, People Capital and Legal when needed.
Leadership & Manager Support
- Build strong relationships and credibility with North Port leaders and employees.
- Coach and advise managers on employee relations, performance management, communication, policy application and day-to-day people matters.
- Help leaders identify and address employee issues early and consistently.
- Bring forward an assessment and recommendation when seeking guidance or escalating an issue.
People Capital Operations
- Provide generalist People Capital support across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, employee changes, performance management, leaves, benefits coordination and offboarding.
- Partner with the Atlanta People Capital team on recruiting, compensation, benefits, HRIS and other People Capital programs.
- Support Workday processes and help ensure employee information, reporting relationships and job information remain accurate.
- Support timekeeping, wage-and-hour and employee classification matters in partnership with People Capital and Legal as appropriate.
- Help ensure People Capital processes are consistently followed across full-time, part-time, seasonal and game-day populations.
Compliance & Policy
- Provide guidance and interpretation of company policies and People Capital practices.
- Support required employee and manager training and other compliance initiatives.
- Stay current on applicable employment requirements and partner with Legal when appropriate.
- Identify potential gaps or risks and bring forward recommendations for resolution.
Workforce Planning & Organizational Support
- Partner with North Port leadership and the VP, People Capital on workforce planning, organizational structure and staffing needs.
- Support organizational changes, role clarity, job descriptions and reporting relationships.
- Help assess People Capital needs associated with Spring Training and other seasonal increases in staffing.
- Identify opportunities to improve People Capital processes and the employee experience.
Ownership, Communication & Execution
- Independently manage People Capital priorities and initiatives.
- Proactively communicate significant issues, risks and changes in priorities.
- Keep the VP, People Capital appropriately informed of significant employee matters and areas of risk.
- Balance independent decision-making with appropriate escalation and partnership.
- Collaborate effectively with People Capital, Legal, Finance, Operations and other business partners in Atlanta and North Port.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Significant hands-on employee relations and workplace investigation experience required, including personally conducting investigations and managing employee matters through resolution.
- Strong HR generalist experience across multiple areas of the employee lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience advising and coaching managers on employee relations, performance management and workplace issues.Strong judgment and ability to assess sensitive situations, identify risk and determine when escalation is appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and follow work through completion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with employees and leaders at all levels.
- Strong attention to detail, organization and follow-through.
- Experience supporting hourly, seasonal or operational workforces preferred.
- Experience supporting employees in Florida and knowledge of applicable state and local employment requirements preferred.
- Workday experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Additional Information
- This is a full-time, onsite position based at CoolToday Park in North Port, Florida.
- The role reports directly to the VP, People Capital based in Atlanta.
- The position supports North Port employees across a variety of functions and employment types, including full-time, part-time, seasonal and game-day employees.
- Some travel to Atlanta may be required.
- The nature of Spring Training and event operations may occasionally require flexibility outside of standard business hours.
