About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Commercial Loan Closing Specialist
In this role, you will:
- Work pre-close documents for moderately complex to complex commercial loans
- Coordinate all aspects of loan closings
- Perform customer, loan and regulatory diligence
- Accurately evaluate and upload data into the systems of record
- Ensure compliance with all bank policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
- Review and prepare complex loan documents
- Coordinate legal activities for loan documentation that may include
- Document purchased from third party sources, with internal staff and the Corporate Legal group
- Serve as primary liaison between Credit, Sales, and Legal departments
- Work collaboratively with Credit, Sales and Legal regarding proper procedures and documentation requirements necessary to ensure accuracy with negotiated terms and ensure alignment with appropriate compliance standards
- Review and negotiate complex legal documentation, evaluate risks, devise strategies to mitigate documentation risk and identifying procedural modifications
- Provide guidance and training to peers
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
- Interact with internal customers
- Receive direction from leaders and exercise independent judgment while developing the knowledge to understand function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of Commercial Loan Closing experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- Lead day-to-day execution of commercial loan on-boarding and funding activities in Loan IQ as a senior individual contributor.
- Create and maintain the Loan IQ deal and facility shell required to support Doc Prep stages and downstream processing.
- Develop a strong understanding of the end-to-end commercial loan lifecycle, including initiation, documentation, boarding, funding, servicing, and closing.
- Engage proactively with Sales and relevant partners to hand-hold each deal from initiation through closing, ensuring clear ownership, timely follow-up, and issue resolution.
- Review approved credit documents, loan agreements, closing instructions, and source data to ensure accurate setup of borrowers, lenders, deals, facilities, tranches, commitments, pricing, fees, interest terms, and payment schedules.
- Process and validate new deals, amendments, restructures, extensions, renewals, commitment changes, and other facility updates in Loan IQ.
- Provide expert oversight for complex transactions, for Bilateral, syndicated or participated facilities, restructures, refinancings, extensions, commitment changes, and nonstandard deal structures.
- Perform source-document-to-Loan-IQ and system-of-record validation, identify discrepancies, and coordinate timely correction before transaction completion.
- Review funding requests and validate facility availability, approved limits, funding amounts, conditions precedent, supporting documentation, and required approvals.
- Validate funding items, principal amounts, settlement details, standard settlement instructions, and payment instructions before funding release.
- Complete post-funding validation and reconciliation to confirm that transactions are accurately reflected in Loan IQ and applicable downstream systems.· Perform maker-checker and quality-control reviews in accordance with delegated authority and established procedures.
- Monitor assigned workflow, transaction aging, cut-off times, service-level agreements, turnaround time, quality, and pending exceptions; coordinate priorities with the manager.
- Partner with Front Office, Credit, Legal/Documentation, Treasury, Technology, Quality Control, and downstream Operations teams to resolve transaction issues.
- Provide technical guidance, process support, peer reviews, knowledge sharing, and cross-training to improve team capability and coverage.
- Identify operational risks, recurring errors, control gaps, and process weaknesses, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain complete supporting documentation, system notes, approvals, and audit trails for all transactions.
- Support internal and external audits, risk assessments, control testing, procedure reviews, and remediation activities.
- Contribute to process improvements, automation, digitization, UAT, system enhancements, and initiatives that improve data quality, straight-through processing, and operational efficiency. Exercise independent judgment within established policies and escalate material credit, documentation, funding, operational, or compliance concerns promptly
Job Expectations:
- Experience in Banking Operations, preferably within Commercial Lending, Wholesale Lending, Loan Closing, Loan Boarding, or Funding Operations.
- Hands-on experience with Loan IQ, particularly deal/facility boarding, loan setup, funding, amendments, and transaction validation.
- Good understanding of the end-to-end commercial lending lifecycle and common bilateral, syndicated, participated, or agented loan structures.
- Working knowledge of loan documentation, credit terms, facility structures, pricing, fees, interest calculations, payment instructions, and reconciliation.
- Strong understanding of operational risk, maker-checker controls, quality assurance, exception management, and audit requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities and complex or time-sensitive transactions under strict deadlines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder-management, and escalation-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience supporting process improvement, automation, UAT, or technology transformation is preferred. Candidates must be flexible to work in shifts aligned with U.S. business hours and support extended working hours during month-end and other critical business periods, as required
