Position Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of manufacturing operations to ensure safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity objectives are achieved. This position provides leadership for production planning, manufacturing operations, maintenance, inventory control, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Production Manager works cross-functionally to optimize plant performance, maximize equipment uptime, improve operational efficiency, and support business growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Oversee production planning activities to balance customer demand, capacity, labor, and material availability.
- Coordinate scheduling priorities with sales, purchasing, and manufacturing teams.
- Identify capacity constraints and develop plans to improve throughput and on-time delivery performance.
- Manage workflow and resource allocation to maximize operational efficiency.
Maintenance & Asset Reliability
- Lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Develop strategies to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Manage maintenance personnel, contractors, and service providers.
- Establish equipment performance metrics and drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Oversee capital equipment installations and facility improvement projects.
Inventory & Material Management
- Coordinate inventory control processes to ensure material availability and accuracy.
- Partner with purchasing and supply chain teams to optimize inventory levels and reduce waste.
- Monitor material consumption, scrap, and operational losses.
- Support initiatives that improve inventory accuracy and material flow.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, cost, and throughput.
- Implement best practices and standardized work processes.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Directly supervise production, planning, and maintenance personnel.
- Develop team capabilities through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- Support succession planning and employee development activities.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships across all plant departments.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.
Experience
- 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience.
- Experience in production planning, scheduling, and operations management.
- Experience managing maintenance programs and equipment reliability initiatives.
- Proven track record of driving operational improvements and achieving performance objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
- Six Sigma certification preferred.
- ERP/MRP system experience.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, inventory management, and capacity planning.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams.
