The Director serves as a professional role model and career mentor while contributing to the educational mission of the College of Medicine. Clinical responsibilities include providing surgical care, clinical teaching, and supervision of residents and medical students in operative and patient care settings.

The Director also collaborates with university and hospital leadership to advance simulation technologies, secure funding, and expand educational capabilities throughout the system. Responsibilities include guiding the acquisition of advanced simulation equipment, supporting the development of an American College of Surgeons Accredited Education Institute (AEI), and ensuring that simulation resources serve both surgical trainees and practicing healthcare professionals. The position performs additional projects and responsibilities as assigned in support of the department's strategic goals.
