Description
Location: Toronto GTA (on-site)
New York (on-site)
Type: Full-time · Openings: 3 ·
Salary: CA$180K – $210K
The role
Own the software that lets people operate our client's connected hardware and use the data it produces. That covers services and operational tools for internal device teams, plus APIs and SDKs for customers building with the hardware and data. You'll own service and API design, data integrity, production reliability and compatibility. As data collection grows, these systems must stay dependable when devices disconnect, transfers stop or services fail.
What you'll do
- Own service and API design, and the data models behind them, for connected hardware and data-intensive workflows
- Keep data accurate and complete and production services reliable
- Build telemetry, diagnostics and operational tools that show how devices and services are behaving
- Develop APIs, SDKs and command-line tools that help customers integrate the platform
- Implement asynchronous workflows that handle retries, duplicate events and interrupted transfers predictably
- Test full user workflows end to end; maintain documentation, monitoring and backward compatibility
What you bring
- 5+ years of software engineering, including strong backend work and operating production services in Python, Go, TypeScript or similar
- Depth in service reliability (telemetry, monitoring, diagnostics) or developer experience (APIs, SDKs, CLIs, docs)
- API, data schema and database design, with practical SQL and query-performance knowledge
- A clear understanding of distributed-system failure: retries, duplicates, interrupted transfers, intermittent connectivity
- Authentication, authorization, automated testing, versioning and release practices
- Debugging across services, client software and device interfaces, and explaining system behaviour clearly
Nice to have
- Connected hardware or operational web applications
- Public SDKs, or large video and sensor datasets
