Description
Description of the company:
An architecture and interiors firm in Calgary whose interiors studio is the largest part of the office, working mostly on hotel and restaurant projects across North America. Every project team has a PM, a design lead who sets the concept direction, and supporting designers, and everyone is involved in the design. They push past trends, and they’re actively bringing AI and new tools into how they work. It’s a supportive, collaborative culture with a strong track record of promoting from within. Their very first employee started as a junior out of school and is now a Director of Design.
Why is this role open:
The firm is growing its hospitality work and wants an intermediate or senior designer with a strong design eye who can step into projects confidently, contribute to concept direction, and help keep the studio’s work ahead of the curve.
Responsibilities:
- Develop hospitality interiors for hotels and restaurants, from concept through documentation and construction
- Contribute to concept and design direction alongside the design lead and project team
- Write and assemble specification books for FF&E, finishes, and materials
- Produce drawings and 3D models in AutoCAD and SketchUp
- Present design concepts to clients clearly and professionally
- Collaborate with PMs, design leads, and the wider studio in weekly team sessions
- Support junior designers and take feedback on your own work in the same spirit
- Take initiative on projects and keep work moving without waiting to be pulled in
Must-haves:
- Intermediate to senior-level interior design experience, with hotel and restaurant hospitality projects
- Spec book writing experience
- Proficiency in SketchUp and AutoCAD
- Comfortable in a client-facing role, presenting work professionally and with confidence
Nice-to-haves:
- NCIDQ certification or IDA registration (or working toward it)
- Revit and Enscape experience
- Interest in AI tools and new ways of working in design
Work style: Full-time in office in Calgary, 5 days a week
Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 (Intermediate) / $80,000+ (Senior)
What’s in it for you:
- Company-paid health and dental benefits, including dependants, after a 90-day probation
- Health and wellness spending accounts that grow with your time at the firm
- RRSP matching
- Banked overtime that’s paid out or taken as time off, with no culture of crazy hours
- An annual budget to attend conferences, design shows, and networking events
- Annual reviews plus regular check-ins throughout the year
- Team building and lessons-learned sessions that bring the whole studio together
- A path to grow: designers have moved from junior roles to leading teams
