Business Overview
GE Aerospace’s Defense Engines & Services organization is the provider of choice for combat and trainer engines, rotorcraft and turboprop engines, mobility engines (tankers/transport), and marine gas turbines for the U.S. Armed Forces and its allies. Our team is responsible for design, manufacturing, and assembly of the engines on which the military depends, along with a vast array of services and support to approximately 30,000 engines in the field.
Role Overview
The Sr Systems Development Engine Qualification Lead will serve as the technical authority for GE Aerospace’s Small Uncrewed Engines development programs. This role will be the custodian of the Propulsion System Integrity Program (PSIP) under MIL-STD-3024 and will own the strategy, documentation, and execution of comprehensive qualification testing required to transition our next-generation turbojet engines from engineering models to flight-certified assets.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Author and maintain the formal PSIP Master Plan, enforcing all elements of MIL-STD-3024 across design verification, structural testing, and service life tracking.
- Lead the definition of engine qualification programs, writing testing profiles, plans, and test matrices.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for military airworthiness authorities (e.g., USAF, US Navy, AFLCMC Propulsion Directorate) to achieve final Type Certification.
- Oversee complex ground and altitude test cell operations.
- Analyze real-time telemetry, thermal fatigue, and rotor dynamics data to troubleshoot anomalies during qualification.
- Conduct Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) on critical engine components, establishing lifting criteria and inspection intervals.
- Travel approximately 25%
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in gas turbine engine design, turbojet engine design, systems integration, and/or test engineering
- This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active U.S. government security clearance
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years of experience leading gas turbine engine design, turbojet engine design, systems integration, and/or test engineering
- Thorough working knowledge of military propulsion standards, specifically MIL-STD-3024 (PSIP) and engine structural integrity concepts
- Direct experience defending technical packages or flight readiness reviews to federal agencies like the FAA Propulsion discipline or military program offices
- Proficiency with engine performance modeling software (e.g., NPSS) or structural lifecycle prediction tools
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
