Description
Business Development Manager
The Organization
Our client is an established, growing commercial construction contractor with strong leadership, an entrepreneurial culture, and an exciting growth trajectory. The company has experienced significant growth in recent years and is continuing to expand its commercial construction portfolio, including a growing presence in the rapidly developing data center construction market.
The Role
This position is designed for someone who enjoys being out in the market, meeting people, developing relationships, and creating opportunities. You will play a key role in expanding the company's customer base, strengthening relationships with general contractors, and identifying new opportunities across data center and commercial construction markets. Rather than simply managing existing accounts, you'll develop new relationships and help position the company for future growth.
Core Responsibilities
- Business Development: Develop new business opportunities throughout the Southeast.
- Relationship Building: Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, construction executives, project executives, procurement teams, and other key decision-makers.
- Market Focus: Identify and pursue opportunities within the data center construction market.
- Data Center Contacts: Develop relationships with contractors building and managing large-scale data center projects.
- Market Expansion: Expand the company's presence within commercial construction markets.
- Client Meetings: Schedule and lead client meetings, lunches, networking events, and industry introductions.
- Industry Representation: Represent the company at industry events, association meetings, and networking functions.
- Opportunity Sourcing: Identify upcoming projects, bidding opportunities, and potential strategic partnerships.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with company ownership and operational leadership to develop new business.
- Pipeline Tracking: Maintain visibility into relationship development, sales activity, and the opportunity pipeline.
- Customer Conversion: Help convert new relationships into long-term customers and profitable business.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: Experience in business development, sales, or strategic account development within commercial construction.
- Industry Contacts: Established relationships with general contractors and construction decision-makers.
- Data Center Exposure: Exposure to data center construction and the contractors serving this market is highly desirable.
- Trade Background: Experience selling construction services, subcontracting, or speciality trade solutions.
- Networking Skills: Strong networking, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: An entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine drive to generate new business.
- Independence: The ability to work independently and manage their own schedule.
- Travel Readiness: Willingness to travel throughout the Southeast.
- Open Background: Candidates from commercial mechanical, HVAC, electrical, fire protection, and other speciality construction trades are encouraged to apply.
- Priority Fit: Industry relationships and the ability to develop new business are more important than coming from one specific trade.
Benefits
This is an entrepreneurial organization that values initiative, accountability, teamwork, and results. The leadership team believes in giving talented people the freedom to do their jobs without unnecessary micromanagement. You'll work directly with ownership and have the opportunity to help shape the company's business development strategy as it continues to grow. This is a highly relationship-oriented position for someone who prefers being in the field, meeting clients, and developing opportunities rather than sitting behind a desk.
Base Salary: Approximately $100,000 to $150,000, depending on experience.
Incentive Pay: Commission or performance-based incentive opportunity.
Travel Scope: Travel throughout the Southeast.
Aircraft Access: Access to company aircraft for business travel.
Growth Impact: Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on company growth.
Leadership Access: Direct access to company leadership.
Regional Travel: Location in the Atlanta, Georgia area, with regional travel throughout Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
