An internal pre-identified candidate for consideration has been identified. However, all applications will be considered.

We are searching for the best talent for Scientist II, Preclinical Research

Purpose: The Scientist II, Preclinical Research will contribute to the strategic generation and communication of preclinical evidence supporting the Electrophysiology and Cardiac Imaging portfolio. Working as an individual contributor within a cross‑functional preclinical research team and under limited supervision, this role supports R&D, Global Strategic Marketing, Health Economics & Market Access, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, and Medical Business Partners by executing experiments, analyzing data, and preparing publications and presentations that advance product development and evidence dissemination.

About the role

This is a lab‑focused, hands‑on scientist role that combines experimental execution with scientific writing and evidence generation. The Scientist II will spend most of their time running preclinical studies and preparing the resulting data for internal review and external dissemination (manuscripts, posters, slides).

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute preclinical experiments and cellular assays (including electrophysiology and cardiac imaging–relevant models, high‑content imaging, flow cytometry, and other in vitro/in vivo assays) to generate reproducible data that support discovery and early product development.

  • Support development and implementation of the preclinical evidence strategy for projects as a scientific contributor; participate as a core scientific member on product development teams.

  • Prepare, draft, and revise scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and technical presentations that fulfill evidence‑generation and dissemination plans in collaboration with senior scientists and Medical Business Partners.

  • Analyze and interpret experimental data; perform basic statistical checks and quality control; clearly communicate results and their implications to project teams.

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in ELNs and other systems; follow EHS, regulatory, and internal quality procedures.

  • Troubleshoot experiments and methods with guidance from more experienced colleagues; propose practical improvements to standard procedures.

  • Support early product introduction activities by providing preclinical scientific content for training, case support, and launch materials as requested.

  • Contribute to laboratory readiness (equipment upkeep, ordering supplies) to ensure projects proceed on schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology, or related field required; PhD or equivalent preferred.

  • Approximately 1–5 years of relevant laboratory experience (industry experience preferred).

  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience with in vitro assays; experience with electrophysiology techniques and/or cardiac imaging is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in designing, executing, and documenting preclinical experiments and generating reproducible datasets.

  • Proven technical writing experience: drafting or contributing substantially to scientific manuscripts, abstracts, or technical reports.

  • Familiarity with basic data analysis tools, and compliance with EHS and internal laboratory procedures.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet project timelines; ability to collaborate across functions (R&D, Clinical Science, Regulatory, Quality, Marketing).

Preferred (nice to have)

  • Prior exposure to large animal preclinical models or device‑related preclinical testing.

  • Experience working within regulated medical device or combination product environments.

  • Prior contributions to peer‑reviewed publications.

Key Competencies

  • Scientific communication: clear, concise writing for manuscripts and technical presentations; effective verbal communication with cross‑functional teams.

  • Experimental rigor: careful protocol execution, strong attention to detail, and commitment to data quality and reproducibility.

  • Technical proficiency: hands‑on laboratory skills, familiarity with assay platforms relevant to electrophysiology and cardiac imaging, and basic data analysis competency.

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting: ability to identify experimental issues, seek guidance, and implement practical solutions.

  • Collaboration: works effectively within a matrixed team, accepts feedback, and supports shared project goals.

  • Time and project management: prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines and contributes reliably to team deliverables.

  • Learning orientation: openness to coaching, continuous improvement, and building technical expertise in preclinical methods.
