Graduation from an EEG technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or three (3) years' experience in EEG and Evoked Potentials is required for this position.

It was founded in 1889 as one of the first hospitals in the county. OCH has grown significantly over the past five years in both its inpatient volume and its Emergency Department visits. Along with these volume increases other ancillary and clinical departments like imaging, lab, pharmacy, and respiratory have seen growth as well. St. Louise Regional Hospital - Since 1989, St. Louise Regional Hospital (SLRH) has been caring for the residents in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient medical specialties. SLRH has 93 beds, is a Designated Primary Stroke Center, and is the only acute care hospital in the area. Located in Gilroy, SLRH maintains a CALSTAR 2 emergency helicopter base on the premises. Regional Medical Center– Regional Medical Center (RMC) is a 258-bed hospital that is the main emergency healthcare provider for East San José, treating a wide range of critical and life-threatening conditions for more than 60 years. Since the SCVH integration of RMC effective 4/1/25, RMC has expanded the critical services including Level II trauma, Thrombectomy capable Stroke Center and STEMI care, and has been seeing an increased number of emergency visits and inpatient volume. - Operates, calibrates and makes minor repairs and/or adjustments to neurophysiological laboratory equipment;
- Recognizes artifacts and takes steps to eliminate the causes;
- Performs as a member of the surgical monitoring team while performing surgical monitoring in the area of electroencephalography and evoked potentials for Neurosurgery, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Orthopedic surgery;
- Recognizes and analyzes computer averaged electrical responses of the eyes, ears, and peripheral nerves and brain to appropriate stimuli;
- Selects appropriate electrode placement relevant to modality of evoked potential being utilized;
- Applies recording electrodes using standard 10-20 required measured positions on the patient's head and checks their performance with impedance meter;
- Selects recording electrode combination (montages) as well as special combinations of recording electrodes and stimulus electrodes;
- Obtains standard recordings;
- Performs complex and specialized examinations such as: geriatric, adult, pediatric and neonatal intensive care monitoring, electrocorticography, and evoked potential studies;
- Assists chief technologist in training and orienting extra help and new technologists;
- Conducts short term and long term video monitoring using acquired skills in video monitoring and EEG testing techniques;
- Operates new EEG equipment involving intermediate and long term monitoring, including setting up and monitoring EEG on weekends, nights and in synchrony with sleep studies in the pediatric unit;
- Conducts initial evaluation in consultation with physician to assess amount of sedation required and determination of withdrawal of sedation;
- Teaches and monitors intensive care staff including neonatologists, pediatricians and neurosurgical staff, in long term monitoring of patients' EEG patterns;
- Assists physician during insertion of depth electrodes;
- Continually monitors and replays recorded EEG data to provide physicians with critical patient information in the setting of seizures and use of central nervous system medications;
- Performs related work as required.
Training and Experience Note:
Knowledge of:
- Major neurological, neurosurgical, psychiatric, toxic, and metabolic conditions or other factors which may affect cerebral electrical activity;
- The neuroanatomy (descriptive and functional) and neurophysiology of the central nervous system;
- Methods and techniques of obtaining standard range of various types of EEGs;
- Emergency procedures for care of acutely ill patients;
- First aid procedures for all types of seizures;
- Medications used by and for clinical neurophysiology patients, including sedatives;
- Significance of other neurodiagnostic studies (CAT, arteriogram, etc).
- Short and long term EEG video monitoring;
- Sedated patient assessment and sedation withdrawal;
Ability to:
- Operate, calibrate, and make minor repairs and/or adjustments to laboratory equipment;
- Recognize artifacts and take steps to eliminate the causes;
- Work with patients safely and sympathetically, interview patients to obtain information, and gain patient's cooperation in the conducting of tests;
- Recognize unusual behavior patterns in patients and deal with emergency situations effectively;
- Assist physician with insertion of depth electrodes;
- Reply recorded EEG data and identify abnormalities;
- Keep routine records and maintain files;
- Learn to perform more complex and specialized examinations such as: intensive care monitoring, surgical monitoring, electrocorticography, evoked potential studies.
- Operate short term and long term video EEG equipment;
- Train hospital staff in EEG video monitoring techniques;
- Apply electrodes using collodian and wrapping patient's head;
- Assist physician during insertion of depth electrodes;
- Replay recorded EEG data and identify abnormalities.
