Description
Sr. Automation Mechanical Applications Engineer is responsible for ensuring that mechanical designs for automated equipment are functionally correct, robust, and suitable for real production environments. This position acts as a technical authority for mechanical applications, leading design reviews, failure mode–based risk analysis, change management assessments, and—when required—direct mechanical design activities. Additionally, this role is responsible for mentoring mechanical engineers and defining, documenting, and maintaining mechanical and automation design standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Mechanical Design Leadership
o Lead mechanical design of automated equipment and subsystems when required.
o Provide technical leadership during concept, detailed design, and iterations.
o Ensure alignment with functional, safety, and lifecycle requirements.
o Act as mechanical technical lead for complex or high-risk projects.
o Lead and participate in formal mechanical design reviews.
o Verify robustness, manufacturability, and operational feasibility.
o Ensure design completeness prior to release.
o Provide structured and actionable design feedback.
o Perform DFMEA / Machinery FMEA–based design reviews.
o Identify mechanical failure modes and interface risks.
o Ensure mitigation actions are implemented and verified before release.
o Develop and interpret mechanical simulations (structural, motion, dynamic).
o Correlate simulation results with failure modes.
o Validate safety factors and design margins.
o Execute dry cycles and functional testing.
o Emulate worst-case and failure scenarios.
o Validate effectiveness of risk mitigations.
o Assess mechanical design changes through formal change management.
o Evaluate impact on risk, interfaces, and performance.
o Ensure changes are justified, documented, and approved.
o Define and maintain mechanical and automation design standards.
o Promote standardization and reuse of proven solutions.
o Drive continuous improvement in design quality.
o Provide mentoring and technical support to mechanical engineers.
o Coach teams on design reviews, FMEA, and risk-based thinking.
