Health Professions Advising at Holy Cross translates a world-class liberal arts education into meaningful, high-impact careers in healthcare. The Helen Boucher, M.D., Director of Health Professions Advising serves as an agile, highly strategic leader positioned at the intersection of a rapidly evolving healthcare industry and higher education. This mission-critical role combines visionary leadership with a commitment to student success and educational equity. The Director will elevate the College’s health professions programming, ensuring that students from all backgrounds are fully equipped and empowered to identify, apply to, and be accepted by the most competitive professional programs in the country. An ambassador of the College’s commitment to student excellence in preparation for entering the health professions, the Director will cultivate relationships with graduate programs, professional associations, students, families, and alumni.

Job Description

Essential Functions

Leadership

  • Provide visionary, strategic direction for Health Professions Advising at Holy Cross, balancing core program strengths with innovative approaches that address evolving industry and admission trends;

  • Manage daily operations, program budget, and professional staff to ensure efficient, high-impact service delivery;

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain active involvement in relevant associations (e.g., AAMC, AMCAS, NAAHP, NEAAHP, NECOME) to remain at the forefront of health professions advising.

Advising 

  • Oversee comprehensive advising support to students and alumni pursuing careers in the health professions, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and allied health fields; collaborate with faculty members of the Health Professions Advising Committee to ensure individualized support for candidates for the complex and competitive application process; 

  • Chair the Health Professions Advising committee, collaborating with faculty members to coordinate dossier reviews, provide feedback to candidates, and author institutional endorsement letters;

  • Coordinate application-cycle support, including mock interviews.

Program Development 

  • Design and execute innovative programming, including workshops, panels, and information sessions on application strategies, clinical/research opportunities, gap year planning, and healthcare trends; 

  • Serve as the primary institutional liaison to health professions graduate programs, external professional bodies, and alumni networks;

  • Represent the Health Professions Advising at key college-wide events, including student orientation, admissions open houses, and alumni events. 

Technology and Data 

  • Leverage emerging technologies and digital platforms to optimize operational workflows, modernize student communications, and maintain robust online advising resources;

  • Track, analyze, and report on candidate outcomes and matriculation data to inform programmatic enhancements and demonstrate student success. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or higher preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of college academic or career advising, health professions advising, health professions admissions, related student services experience, or related healthcare mentoring\.

  • Deep, current understanding of health career pathways, admission requirements and application procedures across diverse healthcare fields.

  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and experience supporting students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in STEM disciplines and healthcare professions.

  • Exceptional oral, written, and presentation skills with an ability to engage diverse internal and external stakeholders effectively.

  • Proven track record in program management, budget oversight, and leading collaborative teams.

  • Skilled in leveraging emerging technology platforms for advising operations and analyzing program data to drive decision-making.

Compensation: The salary range for this exempt-level position is $104,000-$110,000 commensurate with experience.
