Overview
In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health has more than 50,000 members including students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. With over 50 years of service to the Yale community, our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.

The RN, Occupational Health provides professional nursing care in the Occupational Health Department at Yale Health. Facilitate an Occupational Health program conducting employee health screenings and triage for work-related injuries and exposures. Plan, implement, and evaluate all assigned patient care functions in collaboration with department clinicians. Promote occupational health and work safety improvements., Work closely operational and medical leadership, University departments, Occupational health vendors, building services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate patient care and perform triage of work-related injuries and exposures and assure proper referrals are coordinated. Assume responsibility for incoming calls that require clinical decisions and for follow-up patient phone calls that require clinical evaluation.

  • Perform patient rooming, vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and additional applicable screenings.

  • Perform ancillary testing including the administration of immunizations and ordering of titers in accordance with established policies and procedures as well as local, state, and national regulations.

  • Provide assistance to workers compensation designee with case management for employees. Coordinate plan of care with providers, worker's compensation representatives and the employee.

  • Plan, implement, and conduct annual health screenings for Yale Health and the University.

  • Assist and conduct animal handler clearances for employees at the University level.

  • Assure appropriate documentation of patient encounters and provide administrative support in EPIC, Workday, Health On Track when applicable, and other University systems.

  • Provide input in the development of policies and procedures in collaboration with Occupational Health leadership to ensure standards meet JCAHO, OSHA, CMS, CDC and other nationally recognized Occupational health organizations.

  • Provide updates and appropriately adjusts modifications as requirements evolve.

  • Participate in investigations of infectious outbreaks in the organization and at times, with the CDC.

  • Participate in Quality Improvement measures and activities.

Schedule: Full-time, 37.50 hours; Generally scheduled M-F, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings, weekends, holidays/recess periods may also be required.


Required Skills and Abilities

1. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively work with a diverse employee population.

2. Minimum of three years of clinical experience in an occupational healthcare setting, including strong clinical assessment, telephone triage, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills.

3. Demonstrated initiative, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

4. Proficiency with electronic health records and healthcare technology, including Epic, EMR systems, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Excel, Salesforce, and other computerized databases.

5. Current CPR certification and a demonstrated record of excellent attendance, punctuality, reliability, and professional accountability


Preferred Skills and Abilities
Experience with public health initiatives.  Occupational Health RN certification, or eligible and obtained within the first 12 months of job.

1.  The clinical nurse uses the nursing process to deliver high quality comprehensive and individualized care to members of Yale Health. 2.  Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to support the work of the team, unit activities, and the accomplishment of positive patient outcomes. 3.  Delegates responsibilities to appropriate members of the care delivery team based upon an understanding of others' roles, scope of practice, knowledge, and capabilities to ensure optimal utilization of personnel. 4.  Contributes to a positive work environment by being responsive to the need for change. 5.  Maintains a collaborative work relationship with staff members through respect and recognition of cultural and human diversity. 6.  Successfully completes the competency based orientation within designated time frame. 7.  Identifies self-learning needs and actively participates in meeting them in collaboration with the leadership team. Sets and achieves professional goals. 8.  Delivers excellence in patient care through compliance with all patient safety and regulatory initiatives. 9.  Communicates in a calm professional manner with patients, families, colleagues, members of the care team, and other hospital personnel, accepts and elicits feedback, and works toward resolving problems and clarifying issues and concerns. 10. Uses resources in a fiscally sound manner. 11. Compliance with University, State and federal healthcare regulations. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Required License(s) or Certification(s) Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. Physical Requirements May require prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing and touch, moving/lifting patients of varying weights. Requires keyboard use and ability to sit in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.

Health Requirements

This role is a healthcare worker position. Healthcare workers (HCW) are defined as university employees working a healthcare setting who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients, human research subjects or infectious materials including body substance, contaminated medical supplies, devices and equipment, surfaces, or air.  HCW have specific health requirements that must be met prior to starting work, including MMR vaccine or immunity, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or immunity, TB screening, COVID vaccine according to University policy, hepatitis B vaccine or immunity, and annual flu vaccination.
