Nursing Admin. Transport-Courier FT Variable

Overview

JOB SUMMARY:  The transporter is responsible for bringing patients to and from the nursing unit to the unit or from the nursing unit to the ancillary department where procedure will be performed. The transporter is responsible for picking  up requisitions, requests, Doctor's orders from patient care units and deliver to the designated ancillary (non-nursing) departments. The transporter will pick up non-stat medications from pharmacy, test results from file sorter located in clinical laboratory and distribute to the designated nursing units' contact person. The transporter will make hourly runs to the areas listed on the runner schedule. All the transporters and runners reporting to nursing administration will be cross trained for both duties.  

 

Responsibilities

• Patient Transport & Care: Safely transport patients throughout the hospital facility via wheelchair or gurney at a comfortable speed, following proper transport protocols and safety measures (e.g., side rails up, patient straps).
• Patient Identification & Readiness: Verify patient identity prior to transport, assess patient readiness with nursing staff, and ensure appropriate equipment/apparatus (e.g., IVs, Foley catheters) are securely attached.
• Communication & Support: Maintain clear, compassionate, and professional communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Provide accurate hand-off reports to ongoing shift personnel.
• Safety & Infection Control: Strictly adhere to universal precautions, isolation techniques, HIPAA regulations, and safety guidelines when handling hazardous substances or operating equipment.
• Teamwork & Initiative: Assist nursing units with delegated tasks, complete supervisor assignments in a timely manner, and assist with training or orienting new staff members.
• Patient Dignity & Cultural Sensitivity: Respect patient privacy, dignity, and age-specific developmental and cultural needs during all aspects of care and transportation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

A minimum of six (6) months acute hospital experience preferred.

A current CPR card (AHA) is required or must be completed by the end of orientation.

Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills required.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
