Summary

**As Providence Health Care prepares for the opening of the New St. Paul's Hospital, some aspects of this position may evolve during the transition period. While the overall nature of the role is expected to remain substantially the same, operational requirements may result in adjustments to scheduling, FTE, unit assignment, site or other operational details.**

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff. Reporting to the Operations Leader, Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) or designate, orders supplies for areas including the Operating Room and MDR Department using computerized purchase order system. Receives stock through Stores Department and matches invoices to ensure accuracy of order. Contacts suppliers to follow up any discrepancies. Counts or tops up supply carts and shelves in order to maintain inventory levels as established by department. Contacts suppliers in order to obtain information on products such as: availability, price and estimated delivery times, and forwards to appropriate supervisor. Receives and documents information from various departments requesting instrument trays, and informs MDR Technician of the request. Completes paperwork for equipment requiring repairs or being lent out. Performs clerical and reception duties including answering inquiries, phone calls, typing manuals, photocopying and filing. As required, cleans, decontaminates, assembles, wraps, sterilizes and distributes simple and complex medical devices, equipment and linen related to the Operating Room and other areas of the hospital and provides case cart system to the Operating Room.QUALIFICATIONS:EducationGrade 12, successful completion of Sterile Supply Processing course, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of surgical and medical terminology Mathematical aptitude. Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Orders supplies including implants and sutures for areas such as the Operating Room and MDR Department by performing duties such as placing purchase orders from a variety of suppliers utilizing a computerized purchase order system and arranging for approvals. Receives stock delivered to Stores Department, by performing duties such as unpacking and matching goods against purchase order for accuracy. Contacts suppliers to investigate and resolve discrepancies, and follows up with suppliers when items are on back order. Maintains inventory levels on carts and shelves within the MDR Department and Operating Room Core by performing duties such as counting or topping up supplies. Contacts designated sources of supply to obtain information on price, availability and estimated delivery times of products using methods such as the internet, telephone, or in person and forwards information to appropriate supervisor. Receives information from departments for specific instrument trays required for patient procedures. Documents information, gathers items and informs MDR Technicians of the request for processing and delivery. As required when directed by the Operations Leader, checks, assembles, packages, sterilizes and distributes medical devices, supplies and equipment including procedure trays used by the OR and Clinical Units. As required when directed by the Operations Leader, picks and distributes instrument sets, supplies and equipment for operative procedures utilizing case cart system according to established procedures. Completes documentation for equipment needing to be repaired and notifies departments such as Biomedical and Maintenance Departments, or arranges items to be sent out for repair. Completes forms and paperwork required for the loaning of equipment and supplies to other organizations such as hospitals, doctors offices and clinics, and arranges couriers for pick up or delivery of such items. Performs clerical duties such as answering inquiries, answering phones, photocopying, filing and faxing. Opens and distributes mail. Assists in updating department manuals. Types a variety of forms, documents, labels, reports, and lists using computerized systems such as word processing, data base and spreadsheet software. As required when directed by the Operations Leader, cleans and decontaminates medical devices, supplies and equipment used within the Operating Room, Nursing Units, Endoscopy Unit (at designated sites) and other designated areas of the hospital by following prescribed procedures using manual and mechanical techniques. Maintains an orderly and safe work environment following departmental safety procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
