Job Summary
The Dispatcher communicates back and forth with supervisors and all drivers to assist with problem resolution while on route for residential, commercial, and pick-up/delivery business. This position handles incoming service orders, directs drivers, and resolves service issues. The Dispatcher also interacts with customers that include customer service, sales, and operational staff (i.e. supervisors, mechanics etc.). Software is used to enter order information and track activity. Shifts vary with the potential for overtime and weekend hours depending on operational needs.
Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Dispatcher will include, but is not limited to:
- Dispatches drivers to calls as they are received using information on customer needs, driver’s location, loads, services, and daily factors to balance cost and speed of response.
- Works with supervisors and managers to optimize routes.
- Assists in determining the daily level of driver staffing to provide the best mix of responsiveness and productivity.
- Assists supervisors in assigning service orders to appropriate drivers throughout the day and for the next day.
- Ensure service orders are closed each day.
- Fields incoming calls and e-mails from customer service and sales department; manages requests for one-time service, pick-up, or unit delivery and ensures same-day service where needed.
- Assists with outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site/location, resolving pick-up, delivery and other service issues.
- Troubleshoots and resolves potential delivery, pick-up, or service problems before they result in service issues.
- Ensures same-day service on missed services by coordinating driver movement in the field.
- Records and documents information from drivers and distributes to appropriate departments.
- Communicates with maintenance shop personnel and serves as an emergency point of contact for on-road issues.

Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D
- Minimum of 6 months of related work experience
- Additional or specialized training in transportation, logistics, or similar area of study
- Customer service experience in a call-center environment (preferred)
- Ability to speak and understand English and Spanish (preferred)
- Must have adequate typing speed
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally via e-mail, telephone, and 2 way devices
- Must have the desire and ability to learn new software applications
