Credit Analyst

About the Team

The Financial Institutions & Counterparty Credit team (FICPC) is responsible for credit exposures and limits provided to financial institutions and private capital clients of Mizuho Americas. Key responsibilities are two-fold: (i) credit underwriting and approval, and (ii) ongoing monitoring of the portfolio.

Summary

This position is to support the credit approval and monitoring process.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide effective analysis of credit including, worthiness of applicant, loan structure, risk return, applicant operating profile and industry profile including historical profit and loss performance, financial condition and cash flow.
• Create various types of projection/recovery/other financial models, commenting on the reasonableness of assumptions.
• Compare the prospective borrower/counterparty to its peers and summarize industry trends.
• Prepare accurate, clear, well-organized and complete written summary/analysis (Credit Opinion) with recommendations for approval or decline. Discuss with branches/agencies potential changes to credit structure or other conditions for which we would grant credit approval.
• Recommend appropriate risk rating for each customer/transaction as required.
• Proactively monitor and assess assigned borrowers/industries including market data such as share price, EDF, CDS or loan secondary price or other appropriate indices and reports the information and its impact on credits/industries to Senior Management in a timely manner.
• Comply with credit standards, policies, objectives and requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; major in Finance or Economics is a plus
• 3 -5 years of relevant banking/credit experience
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Work, and PowerPoint
• Proactive, curious self-starter who has an interest in pursuing a career in finance.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills demonstrating the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics, and apply sound analysis and judgment.
• Knowledge of financial statements and accounting; ability to construct 3-statement cash flow models.
• Solid time management skills.
• Consistently demonstrate effective negotiation, verbal and written communication skills; ability to present credit package to decision maker.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of working well independently and in teams.

The expected base salary ranges from $95,000 - $115,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, including Medical, Dental and 401K plans, successful candidates are also eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
