Health Informatics Analyst/Clinical Lead

Overview

LMI is seeking a Health Informatics Analyst/Clinical Lead to provide senior clinical integration across Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) modernization initiatives. The role ensures proposed capabilities reflect real care delivery, clinician workflows, operational constraints, human oversight, Veteran safety, and clinically meaningful outcomes.

 

This position follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of approximately 25% onsite presence at LMI’s Tysons headquarters or Washington, DC.

 

The Health Informatics Analyst/Clinical Lead provides the clinical and operational lens that keeps modernization work grounded in real care delivery. The person in this role must understand how proposed capabilities change decisions, information flow, documentation, handoffs, workload, patient or Veteran safety, and the day-to-day experience of clinicians and support staff. 

This position requires credibility with clinical stakeholders and enough technical fluency to work productively with designers, analysts, architects, engineers, security teams, and program leaders. The lead does not replace Government clinical authority; instead, the role ensures clinical implications, human oversight, workflow fit, and evidence needs are understood before decisions are made. 

The lead will also set the standard for how clinical evidence is captured and communicated across the team. This includes coaching analysts, aligning specialty SMEs, and ensuring clinical findings are specific enough to guide design and implementation while remaining clear about where further Government clinical review is required. 

The ideal candidate has deep clinical informatics credibility, can translate between clinicians and technical teams, and can lead clinical workflow analysis, measurement, pilot design, and implementation guidance while respecting Government clinical decision authority.

Responsibilities

• Validate clinical problem statements, users, care settings, decision points, workflow burden, and intended outcomes.
• Assess clinical fit, usability, human oversight, safety, workload, and operational feasibility of proposed solutions.
• Define clinically meaningful baselines, measures, data needs, and interpretation guidance with data and evaluation teams.
• Guide pilot design under representative workflow conditions and identify adoption barriers or unintended effects.
• Bridge clinicians, clinical operations, HCD, data, architecture, engineering, security, and program leadership.
• Coach clinical workflow staff and coordinate specialty SMEs when deeper domain expertise is required.
• Escalate material clinical workflow, safety, or human-oversight concerns and document the basis for action.
• Develop reusable clinical workflow and measurement practices for future VA initiatives.
• Lead structured clinical discovery and future-state workflow design, ensuring clinical users, decision points, information needs, handoffs, exceptions, and safety considerations are explicitly represented.
• Review proposed capabilities for human-factors, clinical usability, automation bias, escalation, override, and human-oversight considerations and identify conditions that require additional clinical review.
• Define clinically meaningful baseline and outcome measures with data and evaluation staff, including clear interpretation of access, timeliness, burden, quality, utilization, safety, and workflow effects.
• Guide pilot design and implementation observation in representative clinical settings, using findings to identify unintended consequences, adoption barriers, workflow disruption, or additional training and support needs.
• Provide direction, peer review, and coaching to clinical workflow analysts and coordinate specialty clinical SMEs when a use case requires domain-specific expertise beyond the core team.
• Maintain traceability from clinical problem statements and workflow findings through requirements, measures, pilot observations, risks, and implementation recommendations so clinical rationale is preserved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in clinical/health informatics, nursing, medicine, public health, biomedical informatics, health administration, or a related field; advanced education may substitute for some experience.

• 12+ years in clinical informatics, health informatics, clinical operations, digital health, or healthcare workflow transformation.

• Demonstrated leadership analyzing clinical workflows and translating among clinicians, operational leaders, and technical teams.

• Strong knowledge of clinical usability, human oversight, safety, workload, health data, and implementation constraints.Recommended certification: CPHIMS, AHIC, relevant clinical informatics credential, or active professional clinical license where applicable.

• Ability to satisfy VA personnel vetting and requirements for sensitive health information, privacy, security, and records handling.

• Demonstrated ability to translate between clinical operations and technical delivery, including converting workflow, safety, and usability concerns into clear requirements and decision criteria.

• Experience facilitating senior clinicians, operational leaders, analysts, and technical teams through ambiguous workflow or implementation decisions where perspectives may differ.

• Strong understanding of health information privacy, clinical data stewardship, human factors, and the limits of technology-enabled decision support in regulated care environments.

• Senior-level experience in complex healthcare delivery environments with responsibility for clinical informatics, operational improvement, digital health, quality, or technology-enabled workflow change.

• Ability to review technical concepts, data products, or AI-enabled capabilities at a level sufficient to identify clinical assumptions, data-context limitations, and workflow implications before deployment.

Desired Qualifications

 

• 15+ years in complex healthcare environments, including VA/VHA, federal health, or large integrated delivery systems.
• Master's or doctoral degree in informatics, health sciences, public health, medicine, nursing, or a related discipline.
• Experience evaluating clinical decision support, automation, AI-enabled workflows, implementation science, or quality improvement.
• Additional credentials such as Lean Six Sigma, PMP, clinical specialty board certification, or advanced informatics certification are preferred.
• Experience with enterprise EHR modernization, digital health implementation, clinical decision support, quality improvement, or workflow redesign across multiple care settings is preferred.
• Advanced informatics credentials such as AHIC, CPHIMS, board certification in clinical informatics, nursing informatics certification, or an applicable clinical license are highly valued.
• Experience leading or supporting multidisciplinary clinical governance, informatics councils, digital-health committees, or enterprise workflow standardization efforts is preferred.
• Prior VA/VHA experience with clinical operations, informatics, EHR-enabled workflows, or national/enterprise initiatives is highly desirable.

Target salary range: $200,000-$240,000
