Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer / Assistant Professor-in-Residence, Insurance and Risk Management, Lee Business School [R0153658].

ROLE of the POSITION

We invite applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer / Assistant Professor-in-Residence in the area of Insurance and Risk Management. The standard teaching load for non-tenure track positions is 4 courses (12 credits) per semester. The position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on insurance and risk management and other finance and related topics, in both in-person and online modalities. The Assistant Professor-in-Residence position is expected to maintain a level of research productivity that satisfies the AACSB requirements for academically qualified faculty, which means periodic publications in peer-reviewed journals. Additional responsibilities may include advising students, engaging in service activities, and interacting with the community.

 

PROFILE of the COLLEGE

As one of the largest schools at UNLV with approximately 3,500 undergraduate students, 500 graduate students, more than 140 faculty and staff, and 25,500+ alumni, Lee Business School offers 10 undergraduate majors, 12 minors, and seven graduate degree programs. The MBA program has ranked in the top 100 part-time MBA programs for the past five years according to U.S. News and World Report. A Ph.D. program is scheduled to launch in Fall 2027.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT

The Department of Finance is a vibrant and rapidly growing department that offers a comprehensive curriculum, including Gen-Ed level financial literacy courses; two undergraduate majors in Finance and Insurance & Risk Management; a concentration in Banking; and the Master of Science in Quantitative Finance, with a Ph.D. program expected to launch soon. Since 2022, enrollment in finance courses has nearly tripled, reflecting the department’s momentum and reputation for excellence. The department works closely with the Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management, which was recently established with a significant endowment. The department oversees two student-managed investment funds, providing students with invaluable experiential learning opportunities. Faculty are highly productive scholars, with publications in top journals in finance and related fields. Research resources are robust and include WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, ISS (RiskMetrics), ExecuComp, BoardEx, and FactSet, complemented by an active research seminar series that brings leading scholars to campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The title of the position will be determined based on the candidate's educational degree and experience. The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer rank requires an advanced degree in finance (or a closely related field) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). In addition, candidates are required to have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience and qualifications consistent with classification as an Instructional Practitioner (IP) within Lee Business School Faculty Qualification guidelines.

 

The Assistant Professor-in-Residence rank requires a Ph.D. in Finance (or a closely related field) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). ABDs will be considered. This position Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
