Tenure-Track, Rank Open Faculty; Elementary/Early Childhood Education

The University of North Alabama’s Spencer College of Education & Human Sciences is accepting applications for the position of Tenure-Track, Rank Open faculty in Elementary and/or Early Childhood Education within the department of Teaching, Learning, & Leadership.  Salary will be commensurate with degree, rank, and experience. The Educator Preparation Program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and approved by the Alabama State Department of Education.  Appointment will be effective Fall 2027.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled. Essential job duties include the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in Elementary Education and/or Early Childhood Education; the ability to advise students; and the ability to work with students as well as P-6 schools and administrators. Additional duties include participation in university and community service initiatives; serving in an active and involved leadership role in both college and university committees; and involvement with research activities. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach program-related coursework in in Elementary Education and/or Early Childhood Education; work with students as well as P-6 schools and administrators;  develop in Elementary Education and/or Early Childhood Education; advise and mentor students; participate in scholarly activities; be active and involved in service to the university, college, department, program, and profession in leadership roles; and support the department's current accreditation processes.   We expect that selected candidates will be able to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in written form, verbally, and inter-personally; will be able to work effectively with a varied population of students, faculty, and staff; will exhibit excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and will have a desire to teach and/or learn to teach a varied and evolving curriculum.  

Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in elementary education, early childhood education, or a closely-related field from an accredited university is required; ABD will be considered, provided degree conferral will occur before the time of appointment; closely-related field in education (i.e. curriculum and instruction) will be considered if the applicant possesses a significant number of graduate hours in elementary education or early childhood; eligibility to possess teaching credentials in elementary education and/or early childhood is required;  minimum of three years of recent, successful P-6 experience is required; experience in and/or the ability to deliver online instruction is required; teaching experience at the college/university level is preferred; interest in or experience directing student research is preferred; and experience in the supervision of interns in the P-12 setting is preferred.

If any of your graduate hours in the relevant teaching discipline are taken from a degree(s) that is not your highest attained, an official transcript of that degree(s) must also be submitted. Transcripts with a designation of “Issued to Student”, or with the student name listed as the recipient will not be considered official. Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment, but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
