What You Will Do   

Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&T C) Surface Radars & Sensors Center is seeking Systems Engineers with an interest in working with ocean or radar systems. Our Portsmouth, RI team supports programs across the naval undersea and naval surface domains, including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture and integration. Our engineers perform underwater acoustics analysis and tracking, develop and manage system requirements, integrate hardware and software, create test plans and procedures, troubleshoot and evaluate system functionality and interfaces, and verify system requirements in support of final customer sell-off.

We build our systems, exercise them in the lab or field, measure and analyze performance, and ensure our products work the first time and every time. Each day brings new challenges to solve. You’ll collaborate across disciplines, partner closely to implement solutions, and gain a broad understanding of every aspect of the system playing a direct role in bringing everything together while supporting teams engaged in integration and test activities.

  • Support systems engineering activities across the design V‑model, including requirements definition, architecture development, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Support in developing and maintaining system requirements, ensuring traceability through design, implementation, and test phases.
  • Capture technical inputs and help translate them into clear, actionable, and verifiable requirements.
  • Conduct requirement analysis to ensure system designs meet program objectives and customer needs
  • Detect and diagnose system failures, identify root causes, and propose corrective actions.
  • Support software/hardware integration efforts, collaborating with software/hardware teams to ensure seamless functionality.
  • Work across disciplines to develop and implement innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in data analysis techniques, and Integration, Verification, or Test practices.
  • Travel, both domestic and international, to support customer events, with an expected travel requirement not exceeding 25%.

What You Will Learn

  • After completion of comprehensive on-the-job training, the candidate will be a part of a team supporting Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) activities across the product development lifecycle.

Qualifications You Must Have   

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or STEM related degree.
  • Experience with system software, system hardware, system requirements and/or test.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB and/or other programming languages.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects. 

Qualifications We Prefer   

  • Experience with identifying root causes of system failures through detailed diagnostics, implement timely fixes to restore functionality, and develop preventative measures to avoid recurrence
  • Experience developing and managing requirements using DOORS, Cameo, or other digital engineering tools, including application of model-based and digital engineering practices.
  • Experience working in an integration lab, test facility, or field environment supporting integration and/or verification to ensure the system under test performs according to specifications/requirements
  • Experience presenting technical findings, analyses, and solutions to leadership and customers.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
