Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Automotive Product Validation Engineer to support the development and validation of diagnostic solutions across embedded, PC, and mobile platforms within the heavy-duty vehicle diagnostics industry.

This role requires strong hands-on experience with embedded software, vehicle communications, automotive diagnostics, and system integration, along with the ability to provide technical leadership across cross-functional engineering teams.

Candidates must have professional experience working as an Electrical Engineer and/or Embedded Software Engineer within the automotive industry.

The successful candidate will help define system architecture, solve complex hardware and software integration challenges, and deliver secure, high-quality diagnostic products used by dealerships, automotive service professionals, and other customers supporting heavy-duty vehicles.

This position is 100% onsite in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of driver, firmware, and application software for vehicle communication devices.
  • Support heavy-duty diagnostic protocols including CAN/J1939, ISO 15765-2, J1708/J1587, UDS, and ISO 22900.
  • Define technical requirements, system architecture, and integration strategies across software and hardware platforms.
  • Develop and enhance API drivers aligned with industry standards such as RP1210, RP1227, and J2534.
  • Support development and integration of embedded, PC, and mobile diagnostic solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex software, firmware, vehicle communication, and system integration issues.
  • Ensure products meet applicable cybersecurity, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with OEMs, fleets, suppliers, customers, and internal engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership during development, testing, integration, and customer deployments.
  • Drive issue resolution and ensure integration readiness.
  • Contribute to product certification and compliance documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded systems, diagnostics, or automotive/heavy-duty software development.
  • Professional experience as an Electrical Engineer and/or Embedded Software Engineer in the automotive industry.
  • Strong object-oriented software development experience, preferably using C++.
  • Experience with C#/.NET development.
  • Experience with multithreaded software design and development.
  • Experience developing API drivers and communication layers on PC platforms using C, C++, or .NET.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, CAN FD, ISO 15765-2, UDS, J1939, and DoIP.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and secure communications technologies such as TLS, VPN, and IPsec.
  • Experience using diagnostic or network-analysis tools such as Wireshark.
  • Experience with low-level PC drivers such as USB or NDIS and integration of third-party SDKs.
  • Experience with modern software development environments, preferably Visual Studio 2022.
  • Familiarity with Agile development, CI/CD, and Git version control.
  • Must be able to work 100% onsite in Rochester Hills, MI.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive or heavy-duty vehicle diagnostic software.
  • Firmware development experience for vehicle communication interface devices.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, CAN transceivers, UARTs, and USB peripherals.
  • Experience with NXP-based embedded platforms.
  • Experience debugging firmware on embedded or connected IoT devices.
  • Familiarity with Android or iOS application development involving third-party APIs and device communication layers.
  • Embedded or device-oriented Linux experience.
  • Hands-on embedded cybersecurity experience.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Classic SPP, or Bluetooth Low Energy.
  • Experience with containerized applications on embedded systems, including Docker or Podman.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted software development or large language model-based development tools.
