Assistant Vice President, D&O/EPL Claims

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President (AVP), D&O/EPL Claims professional to lead the management of complex Directors & Officers (D&O) and Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims. This position will be responsible for overseeing high-severity and high-exposure claims, providing technical claims expertise, and working closely with brokers, insureds, coverage counsel, defense counsel, and internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience handling complex D&O and EPL claims, strong coverage knowledge, excellent analytical and negotiation skills, and the ability to make sound decisions on challenging claims matters.

Compensation:

• $180,000 - $200,000/year (based on experience)

Responsibilities

• Deliver strategic direction and technical support to junior Financial Lines Claims professionals.
• Promote a collaborative, results-driven team culture.
• Coach and support team members in strengthening their technical expertise and professional capabilities.
• Spearhead process improvements designed to increase team productivity and overall performance.
• Manage the claims lifecycle from inception through resolution, ensuring claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Assess and manage complex Financial Lines D&O and EPL claims, primarily involving duty-to-defend primary or low-excess policies.
• Partner with Underwriting, brokers, and external specialists to investigate claims and assess coverage, liability, and exposure.
• Analyze policy language, provisions, and conditions to support appropriate and consistent claims decisions.
• Oversee reserve activity and assess settlement proposals to effectively manage and control financial exposure.

Requirements

• 10+ years of insurance claims experience, with significant experience handling complex claims.
• Extensive experience with Directors & Officers (D&O) and Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims.
• Strong knowledge of D&O and EPL policy forms, coverage issues, litigation, and claim strategies.
• Demonstrated experience handling high-severity and high-exposure claims.
• Bachelor's degree required; JD or CPCU/ARM designation a plus.
