Responsibilities & Requirements

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Wound Center provides direct nursing care to patients with acute and chronic wounds, supporting assessment, treatment, and patient education under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. This role ensures safe, evidence-based wound care interventions, promotes healing, and contributes to positive patient outcomes through interdisciplinary collaboration and adherence to regulatory standards. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Education:

 Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program

 

 

Preferred Work Experience:

 Experience in wound care or an outpatient clinical setting. 

 

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

 Current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Ohio.

 Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

 

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

 Wound Care Certified (WCC) or similar wound care certification. 

 

 

Skills

 Knowledge of nursing principles and practices within the LPN scope of practice

 Proficiency in medication administration and clinical documentation

 Ability to measure and record vital signs accurately

 Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems

 Effective verbal and written communication

 Strong observational and critical thinking skills

 Ability to collaborate within interdisciplinary care teams

 Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards

 Strong organizational and time management skills. 

 

 

Essential Functions

 Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of patients' skin integrity and wound status under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider.

 Implements wound care plans, including performing wound dressings, debridement, and application of specialized wound care equipment as ordered.

 Monitors and documents patient responses to wound care interventions, reporting changes to the supervising RN or provider.

 Administers medications related to wound care in accordance with provider orders and organizational policy.

 Educates patients and families on wound care management, prevention strategies, and lifestyle modifications to support healing.

 Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive wound care and discharge planning.

 Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

 Adheres to infection control, safety, and quality standards in all aspects of wound care delivery.

 Participates in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development related to wound care.

 Assists with inventory management and maintenance of wound care supplies and equipment.
