Underwriter Personal Lines

Classification: Exempt/Full-Time

Reports to: Underwriting Territory Manager

Location: Dallas, TX - Hybrid

Role overview 

At DUAL, Underwriters play a key role throughout the lifecycle of all personal lines insurance products. In this role, you will be responsible for understanding and applying underwriting guidelines across multiple states and lines of business. You will work closely with members of the Customer Contact Center and Independent Insurance Agents to ensure that new business and renewal policies are issued and modified in accordance with published guidelines and processes while meeting the needs of our policyholders.

As an Underwriter you will independently manage a myriad of different activities on a daily basis including the review of policy applications, binders and in force policies. You will be engaging with independent agents and employees across DUAL via the phone, emails and in a variety of other manners in this fast paced, engaging and dynamic workplace. As you work to review property inspections gather supporting documentation, and help manage workflows, you are serving as the gate keepers of DUAL.

Role responsibilities

• Review new and renewal personal lines property insurance applications and policies to determine appropriate underwriting action.

• Make decisions concerning the eligibility of individual property submission by assessing risk factors and exercising underwriting discretion.

• Serve as a point of contact for customer/agent inquiries during the insurance policy life cycle

• Interpret underwriting process guides to evaluate risk, interpret requirements, and determine appropriate handling of submissions.

• Attend and participate in departmental meetings

• Respond to agent phone calls and emails

• Maintain an up to date understanding of all products offered by DUAL Personal Lines.

• Order, review and follow up on property inspections to assess findings and determine appropriate next steps.

• Meet time service, production and quality expectations on all work types

• Partner with leadership on projects as needed

• Other related duties as assigned

Key requirements

• 5+ Years of Personal Lines Underwriting experience required

• Bachelor's Degree preferred

• Advanced knowledge of Insurance terminology

• Self-motivated

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and expectations

• Ability to work independently for extended periods

• Flexible and adaptable

• Excellent written, verbal and client-facing communication skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

• Ability to follow policies and procedures 

• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, with occasional movement in the office to access cabinets and equipment.
