About Phoenix Fuel
Phoenix Fuel is an independent food business focused on producing fresh, high-quality food, with a strong emphasis on making healthy food taste great.
We’re a small, hands-on team and, as the business continues to grow, we’re looking for the right person to grow with us.
The Role
We’re looking for a reliable and enthusiastic part time chef, with a passion for fresh food to join our small, friendly team.
In this role, you’ll be one of the faces of our café, preparing delicious food, delivering excellent customer service, and helping us keep our kitchen and service areas clean, organised and running smoothly.
It’s a varied, hands-on role. One moment you could be serving a customer or operating the till, the next you could be restocking our food fridges, preparing ingredients, loading the dishwasher or helping with food production.
Previous kitchen experience is essential, but full training will be provided on our equipment, systems, recipes and methods.
Safety awareness is extremely important. The role involves working with professional kitchen equipment and tools, including sous-vide equipment, commercial slicers, ovens, blenders, mixers and knives. We’re looking for someone who understands the importance of safe working practices and is willing to learn how to use our equipment correctly.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing ingredients and assisting with daily food preparation and production.
- Preparing and cooking food using methods including commercial ovens and sous-vide cooking.
- Following recipes, portion specifications, established systems and preparation methods consistently.
- Safely using professional kitchen equipment including sous-vide equipment, commercial slicers, ovens, blenders and mixers.
- Safe and confident knife handling during food preparation.
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene standards throughout the kitchen and service areas.
- Working alongside the rest of the team to keep service and production running smoothly.
- Monitoring food and equipment temperatures where required.
- Correctly labelling prepared food and following stock rotation procedures.
- Refilling counter spaces, ingredients and other service items as required.
- Cleaning down work surfaces and maintaining clean and organised work areas.
- Following all food safety, health and safety procedures and safe working practices regarding kitchen machinery and sharp tools.
- Keeping our food fridges fully stocked and topped up throughout the day.
- Loading and unloading the dishwasher and keeping on top of the daily washing up.
- Deep cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas as required.
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, professional customer service.
- Taking customer orders and operating the till.
- Completing required online training as part of the role.
What We’re Looking For
- We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced working in a kitchen environment.
- Reliable and punctual.
- A team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
- Friendly, outgoing and confident dealing with customers, with a genuine focus on providing great customer service.
- Comfortable moving between customer service, food preparation, cleaning and other duties throughout the working day.
- Organised and able to follow recipes, systems, procedures and instructions consistently.
- Interested in food and willing to learn new skills and methods.
- Safety-conscious and comfortable working around professional kitchen equipment and knives.
- Flexible and able to work early morning starts where required.
