Overview
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Engineering & Analysis, and Training.
Responsibilities
- Work with and mentor other engineers and designer/drafters to design, develop, analyze, and support the fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater, for underwater launchers
- Develop Technical Data Packages (TDPs) with the use of free body diagrams, stress calculations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in ANSYS to prove design meets certain requirements
- Support designer/drafter’s by creating 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings in SolidWorks
- Select design materials based on stress calculations as well as commercial and/or military specifications.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of drawings and technical data packages (TDPs).
- Interface with customers and government sponsors.
- Support possible testing of designs onboard submarines and in test facilities with some foreign travel possible.
- Conduct research of submarine construction drawings using the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS) System.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering.
- Ability to maintain a DoW Secret Clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
- Physically capable to conduct ship checks on United States Nuclear Submarines:
- Be comfortable in relatively confined spaces.
- Capable of climbing vertical ladders (20’ – 25’) within the submarine.
- At least three (3) years professional experience doing stress analysis with hand calculations
- At least three (3) years professional experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation
- Professional experience with Microsoft Office
