Description
Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. - Maintain clean, sanitary, and orderly kitchen, warewashing, storage, and food preparation areas in accordance with company standards and applicable health and safety regulations.
- Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, small wares, food preparation equipment, and other kitchen items.
- Operate commercial dishwashing machines, sanitizers, trash compactors, glass crushers, and other stewarding equipment safely and properly.
- Assists with sweeping and mopping floors at appropriate intervals to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
- Clean and sanitize worktables, walls, refrigerators, sinks, shelving, meat blocks, food preparation surfaces, and assigned kitchen equipment.
- Segregates and removes trash and garbage and places it in designated containers. Steam cleans or hoses out garbage cans in appropriate and assigned areas.
- Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas observing all safe lifting standards.
- Assist with loading or unloading and delivering supplies and product.
- Assists with banquet table and front of the house set up as requested.
- Assist culinary and receiving personnel with the proper organization and storage of food products and perishables when requested.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate inventory levels of small wares, utensils, cleaning supplies, chemicals, and stewarding equipment.
- Maintain stewarding equipment in proper working condition and promptly report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or sanitation issues to leadership.
- Properly use, store, label, and handle cleaning chemicals in accordance with established procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and safety requirements.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, occupational safety, and company policies and procedures.
- Notify leadership of damaged, missing, or low-inventory equipment and supplies and assist with replenishment or reordering processes as directed.
Education and/or Experience: The education and experience requirements listed below represent the level of knowledge and background generally necessary to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered where appropriate.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in a lead, trainer, or similar capacity.
- Working knowledge of commercial kitchen sanitation, warewashing procedures, cleaning practices, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals preferred.
- Ability to operate commercial dishwashing and stewarding equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, safety procedures, sanitation requirements, and departmental standards.
- Must be able to work standing for the duration of shift.
- Must be able to lift, move and carry at least 25 pounds.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adjust to changing operational needs in a fast-paced event and hospitality environment.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, safety, and detail.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Must maintain a professional, neat, and clean appearance.
- Must demonstrate dependable attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on event and business requirements.
- Excellent customer service, listening and communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work harmoniously in a team setting exhibiting the “Aloha Spirit” to fellow workers, guests, clients and the community so as to provide exceptional customer service while demonstrating behaviors that reflect the Hawai‘i Convention Center’s vision, mission statement and values.
COMPENSATION
Hourly Pay Range $25.00 - $30.00 and a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, holiday pay, and 401k plan.
