Environmental and Dynamics Technician II

Overview

The Environmental and Dynamics Technician II supports hands-on product qualification testing in a laboratory environment. This role performs test setup, test execution, troubleshooting, data collection, and equipment support for both environmental testing and dynamics testing.

 

This position is ideal for a technician with experience in environmental chambers, temperature chambers, humidity chambers, thermal cycling, vibration testing, shock testing, mechanical testing, electrical troubleshooting, refrigeration systems, temperature sensors, thermocouples, instrumentation, and data acquisition.

 

The Environmental and Dynamics Technician II works under general supervision and is expected to perform recurring tests independently, support intermediate technical and mechanical procedures, communicate professionally with customers, and troubleshoot standard test setups and equipment issues.

 

Salary: $25- $35/hr DOE 

 

Responsibilities

• Set up and perform environmental testing and dynamics testing in accordance with customer requirements, test standards, statements of work, test plans, and approved procedures.
• Operate environmental chambers, temperature chambers, humidity chambers, altitude chambers, thermal cycling chambers, and related environmental test equipment.
• Support vibration testing, shock testing, acceleration testing, mechanical testing, and other dynamics test activities.
• Read and interpret technical documents, test specifications, customer requirements, drawings, procedures, and test plans.
• Prepare test equipment, fixtures, test articles, instrumentation, sensors, thermocouples, accelerometers, and data acquisition equipment.
• Install, verify, and monitor temperature sensors, thermocouples, accelerometers, and other instrumentation used during testing.
• Monitor tests during execution and document test conditions, observations, anomalies, equipment issues, and required data.
• Troubleshoot standard test setups, chamber issues, sensor problems, instrumentation issues, electrical issues, refrigeration-related issues, and recurring equipment problems.
• Support basic electrical troubleshooting, refrigeration troubleshooting, and mechanical troubleshooting related to environmental chambers and laboratory equipment.
• Verify, review, process, and document test data after test completion.
• Finalize test data packages and provide required information to the Program Manager or department leadership.
• Remove test articles and complete post-test teardown, cleanup, and equipment reset activities.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, supplies, chambers, fixtures, and work areas in an organized and professional condition.
• Ensure calibrated instruments are current, properly identified, and appropriate for use before testing.
• Communicate with customers during testing as needed to support test execution, status updates, and issue resolution.
• Follow all applicable safety, quality, calibration, and operational procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills / Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree, technical certificate, trade school training, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on technical experience preferred.
• 2 to 6 years of experience in environmental testing, dynamics testing, product qualification testing, laboratory testing, mechanical testing, field service, maintenance, refrigeration, electrical troubleshooting, or a related technical field preferred.
• Experience operating or supporting environmental chambers, temperature chambers, humidity chambers, altitude chambers, thermal cycling chambers, or other environmental test equipment preferred.
• Experience with vibration testing, shock testing, acceleration testing, mechanical testing, shaker systems, fixtures, accelerometers, or dynamics test equipment preferred.
• Experience with refrigeration systems, compressors, temperature control systems, heaters, temperature sensors, thermocouples, RTDs, wiring, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems preferred.
• Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, environmental testing, and dynamics testing principles.
• Basic understanding of AC/DC circuits, electrical safety, wiring, sensors, and troubleshooting methods.
• Ability to perform intermediate technical and mechanical procedures with general supervision.
• Ability to troubleshoot and rework standard tests, test setups, sensor issues, chamber issues, and recurring equipment problems.
• Ability to accurately collect, review, document, and communicate test data.
• Ability to interpret and analyze test results at an intermediate level.
• Ability to interact professionally with customers, engineers, program managers, and internal team members.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation, safety, and quality.
