Description
Job Summary:
The associate editor, publications, is responsible for assisting with the editing and production of HNOC exhibitions and books. This position is also responsible for assisting with administrative and organizational tasks.
This is a full-time position, with scheduling Monday to Friday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The below duties and responsibilities are essential core functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
1. For HNOC exhibitions, timely and effectively:
- Assist senior exhibition editor in managing editorial communications and project workflows among curators, exhibition designers, media producers, registrars, preparators, and other members of the exhibition production team.
- Assist in editing exhibition content—including narrative development, text panels, object labels, multimedia storyboards, and data graphics—for accuracy, style, grammar, and punctuation.
- Assist senior exhibition editor in tracking workflows across multiple exhibition projects.
2. For HNOC publications and exhibition catalogs, timely and effectively:
- Assist project manager for selected book projects, managing communications among author, editors, designer, and production team.
- Assist in editing book manuscripts for accuracy, style, grammar, and punctuation.
- Assist in fact-checking and proofreading book manuscripts.
- Assist in procuring visuals for HNOC publications.
3. For office administration, timely and effectively:
- Assist managing editor in packaging and shipping of books for promotion and distribution.
- Assist managing editor in maintaining inventory of books and catalogs.
- Assist with research tasks related to the growth of the publishing program, including those related to community outreach and the development of products such as audiobooks and e-books.
Requirements
Job Qualifications:
Below are the minimum requirements necessary for this position.
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, history, art history, American studies or a related field.
Experience:
· Minimum of five years of experience in editing and/or publishing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Comprehensive ability and skill in editing, writing, and researching.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mastery of Chicago Manual of Style.
· Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with others as well as demonstrated ability to work independently.
· Ability to be flexible and responsive to an evolving work environment.
· Ability to meet deadlines.
· Exceptional attention to detail.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
· Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
· Familiarity with the Microsoft Teams environment
· Familiarity with Wrike or similar project management software
