A Day in the Life

The Global Commercial Office (GCO) supports Medtronic’s convention strategy across the United States and Canada through financial stewardship, operational excellence, analytics, and vendor management. The team partners with Operating Units (OUs), convention planners, Finance, and external vendors to support convention planning, budget management, reporting, process optimization, and successful event execution. As convention-related financial ownership continues to evolve across the organization, this function plays a critical role in helping business partners plan, monitor, and evaluate convention investments while improving visibility into performance, costs, and operational effectiveness.

This position can be based anywhere in the United States, with preference for candidates located in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. The role is remote and requires approximately 10% travel to support conventions, vendor meetings, and team collaboration activities.

         

         

The Convention Analyst serves as a key business partner to Operating Units, Convention Specialists, Finance, and external vendors by supporting convention budget planning, financial management, analytics, reporting, and vendor performance programs. This role combines financial analysis, automation, data management, and stakeholder engagement to improve convention planning and decision-making across the convention portfolio. The successful candidate will leverage advanced analytical tools to transform complex data into actionable insights while helping establish scalable processes and reporting solutions that support organizational objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with Operating Units, Convention Specialists, and Finance stakeholders to develop annual convention budgets, maintain forecasting models, monitor spending, support accrual activities, and identify budget risks and savings opportunities.
  • Own convention-related financial reporting by reconciling expenses, validating cost allocations, analyzing variances, and ensuring accurate reporting to the appropriate cost centers.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, automated reporting solutions, key performance indicator (KPI) reporting, and executive-level analytics that support convention performance evaluation and business decision-making.
  • Leverage Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Apps, Glean, and other analytics and automation tools to improve reporting processes, streamline workflows, identify data discrepancies, and enhance data integrity.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between Operating Units and convention stakeholders, facilitating budget discussions, gathering requirements, communicating financial performance, and adapting communication approaches to diverse business partners.
  • Lead vendor performance management activities, including service level agreement (SLA) monitoring, vendor scorecards, business reviews, compliance support, performance tracking, and cost-savings analysis.
  • Support convention operations by managing project timelines, planning documentation, invoice processing, data governance activities, and cross-functional process execution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through process standardization, documentation development, automation opportunities, stakeholder training, and implementation of new technologies and reporting capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in financial analysis, business analytics, budget management, project management, sales operations, event operations, or related analytical business functions; or Advanced Degree with 3+ years of related experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including experience using PivotTables, complex formulas, data validation techniques, and analysis of large datasets.
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasts, financial reporting, accrual processes, or business performance analytics.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, or data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, Glean, or similar business intelligence and analytics platforms.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to communicate data-driven insights, support decision-making, and manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting convention, tradeshow, meeting, event, or commercial operations programs.
  • Experience with automation platforms such as Microsoft Power Apps, workflow automation tools, or artificial intelligence-enabled reporting solutions.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, supplier performance programs, service level agreements (SLAs), or contract compliance activities.
  • Experience with SAP, ReadSoft, Workfront, or similar financial, purchasing, and project management systems.
  • Experience identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing scalable reporting, analytics, or operational solutions.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$100,000.00 - $150,000.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
