Job Overview
A healthcare organization in White Plains, New York, is seeking a Registered Pharmacist to join its Pharmacy Services team.
Under the direction of pharmacy leadership, the Registered Pharmacist will provide safe, accurate, and efficient pharmaceutical services while collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
The Pharmacist will review medication orders against patient medication profiles, support medication safety and appropriate therapy, oversee pharmacy support staff, and contribute to quality improvement and regulatory compliance initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Review and verify medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and patient safety
- Compare medication orders against patient medication profiles
- Identify potential medication interactions, duplications, contraindications, and dosing concerns
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians regarding medication therapy
- Support safe and effective medication distribution throughout the organization
- Apply age-specific considerations to medication therapy, education, and safety
- Promote patient rights and medication-safety practices
- Provide pharmaceutical information and guidance to members of the healthcare team
- Follow established infection-control and pharmacy safety procedures
- Participate in performance improvement and risk-management initiatives
- Utilize sound clinical judgment and appropriate decision-making processes
- Prioritize pharmacy workflow and allocate available resources effectively
- Assist pharmacy leadership with operational and staffing needs
- Provide oversight and direction to Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacy Transporters
- Maintain professional accountability and complete required competency standards
- Participate in staff education, in-services, projects, and professional-development activities
- Maintain required professional licensure and continuing-education requirements
- Adapt to changing assignments, staffing needs, and departmental priorities
- Utilize cost-containment practices while maintaining quality and patient safety
- Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, staff, and members of the healthcare team
- Perform other pharmacy-related responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree
- Current New York State Pharmacist license upon hire
- Knowledge of medication delivery and distribution systems
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong understanding of medication safety and pharmacy practice standards
- Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to adapt to changing assignments and staffing requirements
Preferred
- Previous hospital or acute-care pharmacy experience
- Experience with computerized medication-order systems
- Experience overseeing Pharmacy Technicians or other pharmacy support personnel
- Familiarity with performance-improvement and risk-management programs
- Experience working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
