Description

The Area Coordinator, working in the Department of Community Living, is responsible for providing students with safe and comfortable living environments on campus. Advises, supports and guides students and leaders to help them grow and develop through one-on-one interactions, programs, educational outreach, supervision and advising. May perform administrative duties within the department and throughout campus. Previous experience as a live-on residence life staff member preferred for this role within the Department of Community Living.

This is a temporary, part time position (20 hours a week) through December 2026. The rate is $24/ hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervises student community advisors in their role as community developers within the  Residence Halls. This may include providing training, guidance and evaluation around group dynamics, communication skills, conflict mediation, crisis management, academics, and community building efforts. 25%
  • Develops academic, educational, and social programs and initiatives to make students' living environment enjoyable, safe and comfortable.  This may involve connecting with other university departments, as well as faculty, to ensure the growth and development of students. 20%
  • Oversees and administers supervision of a quad community of 200-500 students living within residence halls. This includes academic advising, crisis counseling, student conduct and student development. 15%
  • Manages multiple tasks related to student housing concerns including assignment changes, facilities and custodial needs, special needs, roommate issues and conflicts. Acts as the liaison between students in their assigned area and the entire university surrounding these issues. 15%
  • Participates in the student judicial process.  Meets with students who have been referred to the process for alleged violations of university policy. May assist in the training and development of students and staff who serve on the University Board on Student Conduct and advises the board when they conduct hearings. 15%
  • Responsible for 24 hour conflict and crisis management for the entire on campus residence community.  This often includes on-sight crisis counseling for psychological situations, physical altercations, and/or severe drug and alcohol situations. 10%

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required, Master’s preferred plus 1-3 years work experience
