OBJECTIVE

The Class C Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of redwood, composite decking, lumber, hardware, and other building materials to job sites, residential properties, contractor yards, and other customer locations. This role supports daily delivery and yard operations while providing professional, courteous, and customer-focused service.


The Class C Delivery Driver is responsible for properly inspecting, loading, securing, transporting, unloading, and delivering materials while maintaining a strong focus on safety, accuracy, customer service, vehicle care, and compliance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.


This role encompasses a range of responsibilities that may vary based on experience, training, and business needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate assigned Class C company vehicles, including pickup trucks, flatbed trucks, and other delivery vehicles.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Deliver lumber, building materials, hardware, and related products to residential and commercial customers, contractors, construction jobsites, and contractor yards.
  • Follow assigned delivery routes and schedules while communicating with dispatch, management, and customers regarding delivery status.
  • Read and interpret delivery instructions, route sheets, work orders, customer notes, and other delivery documentation.
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding delays, site access issues, customer concerns, material discrepancies, or other delivery-related issues.
  • Properly inspect, handle, load, secure, transport, and unload materials to minimize damage and ensure safe delivery.
  • Verify materials and order quantities prior to loading and report shortages, damage, or discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Interact professionally with contractors, homeowners, and other customers at delivery locations and provide courteous, professional customer service.
  • Assist customers with the safe placement and unloading of materials when appropriate and within company guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate delivery paperwork, including customer signatures, photos, delivery documentation, and incident reports as required.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean, organized, and road-ready condition.
  • Support the yard and warehouse team when not on delivery, including stocking, organizing materials, staging orders, loading customer pickups, and assisting with general yard operations.
  • Assist with inventory verification and material preparation to ensure orders are ready for delivery.
  • Coordinate with yard personnel, dispatch, supervisors, and coworkers to manage delivery schedules and prioritize loads.
  • Participate in required safety meetings, driver training, equipment training, and cross-training.
  • Operate vehicles and handle materials in compliance with company safety policies, applicable DOT requirements, and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Enforce and model proper use of PPE and safe work practices.
  • Report vehicle accidents, property damage, injuries, unsafe conditions, or other incidents to management promptly.
  • Perform general yard, warehouse, housekeeping, and other operational duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to safely operate Class C vehicles in a variety of environments, including residential neighborhoods, commercial properties, contractor yards, and active construction jobsites.
  • Strong understanding of load securement, material handling, and weight distribution principles.
  • Ability to safely maneuver and position vehicles in tight spaces and challenging delivery locations.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate professionally with contractors, homeowners, coworkers, and management.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret delivery instructions, work tickets, route information, measurements, and material descriptions.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to use smartphones, tablets, delivery applications, GPS systems, and digital logs as required.
  • Knowledge of basic construction terminology and building materials preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate delivery documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, dependable, and professional.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Class C driver's license required.
  • Clean driving record with a strong history of safe driving practices.
  • Prior delivery, driving, yard, warehouse, lumberyard, or construction experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with building materials, particularly redwood, composite decking, framing lumber, and hardware, is highly desirable.
  • Experience with load securement and delivery of building materials is a plus.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate a variety of residential, commercial, and construction environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, climb, and move throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to climb in and out of truck cabs and truck beds, and safely access delivery areas.
  • Manual dexterity to operate vehicles, material-handling equipment, and other assigned tools and equipment.
  • Ability to safely load, unload, carry, and position building materials.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Tolerance for exposure to noise, dust, traffic, construction environments, and typical yard and delivery conditions.

SALARY RANGE

$18.00 - $23.00 DOE
