What you will have an opportunity to do:

Director of Security

Position Summary

The Director of Security & Safety is responsible for leading all hotel safety and security programs to ensure a secure, welcoming, and well-managed environment for guests, team members, and visitors. Reporting to the General Manager or Director of Rooms, this role provides strategic oversight of security operations, risk management, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and team leadership across the property.

Leadership and Operational Responsibilities

This position leads and develops Security Supervisors and Security Officers, overseeing recruitment, selection, coaching, performance management, and daily operational effectiveness. The Director ensures that security logs, reports, and documentation are accurate and complete, while maintaining high standards of professionalism, accountability, and guest service throughout the department.

Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management

A central responsibility of the role is promoting a culture of safety. The Director supports OSHA compliance, identifies and mitigates workplace hazards, develops safety initiatives, and coordinates training programs that strengthen awareness and preparedness. The role also oversees fire life safety programs, CPR certification efforts, workplace violence prevention training, and other corporate-required programs.

Investigations and Incident Response

The Director leads investigations involving accidents, theft, property loss, and other unlawful or disruptive activities. This includes gathering information, documenting findings, coordinating with management and law enforcement when appropriate, and recommending corrective actions to reduce future risk.

Administrative and Financial Oversight

The role includes responsibility for department scheduling, payroll approval, forecasting, and preparation of corporate property loss reports. The Director also manages the Lost and Found program and supports the resolution of guest concerns and security-related incidents.

Property Security and Collaboration

Regular property inspections and patrols are conducted to verify that all areas remain safe and secure. The Director works closely with hotel leadership, convention and catering teams, outside agencies, and law enforcement partners to ensure security considerations are integrated into hotel operations and special events.

Supportive Responsibilities

Additional duties may include serving in the Manager-on-Duty rotation, overseeing security escorts, maintaining departmental equipment and uniforms, managing security technology systems and databases, updating departmental procedures, and participating in hotel meetings and cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a high school diploma, with a related four-year degree preferred. Significant leadership and supervisory experience is required, along with five or more years of security or related experience. Strong customer service skills, proficiency with Windows-based software, sound judgment, and effective communication abilities are essential.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

The position requires frequent walking, climbing stairs, sitting, communication, and observation. Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping may be required, along with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Because hotel operations function 24 hours a day, seven days a week, schedule flexibility and responsiveness to operational needs are critical.

Direct Reports

Direct reports may include the Assistant Director of Safety & Security, Security Officers, Lost and Found Officers, Dispatchers, and Security Supervisors.

Valid Drivers License in good standing required

Related college degree preferred
