The Strand Hotel is looking for a passionate and experienced Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at one of Yeppoon’s best-known coastal venues.

Located right on the waterfront, The Strand has been part of the Yeppoon community for more than 60 years and is a genuine local favourite. With a busy bistro, functions, events and a diverse pub menu, this is a great opportunity for a chef who enjoys a fast-paced kitchen and wants to develop their leadership skills.

The Role

Working closely with the Head Chef, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen and help lead a team through busy services.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Supporting the Head Chef with the overall kitchen operation

• Leading, motivating and developing the kitchen team

• Maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation and consistency

• Running smooth and organised services in a high-volume environment

• Taking responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence

• Assisting with ordering, stock control and deliveries

• Supporting food cost and waste management

• Maintaining food safety, hygiene and WHS standards

• Contributing ideas to menus, specials and kitchen processes

• Helping create a positive and professional kitchen culture

What we're looking for

We're looking for a strong Chef with Sous Chef experience who is ready to take the next step or continue developing their leadership career.

You'll bring:

• Previous experience in a Sous Chef or senior chef role

• Strong leadership and communication skills

• Experience working in a busy commercial kitchen

• The ability to lead a team during high-pressure services

• A strong understanding of food quality, consistency and presentation

• Good knowledge of stock control, ordering and food costs

• A hands-on approach and positive attitude

• Excellent organisation and time management

• A genuine passion for hospitality and developing your career

Sponsorship may be available for the right candidate, assessed on a case-by-case basis and subject to eligibility and business requirements.
