Description

Coordinate the processing of firearms and firearm components in support of the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) process.  Perform physical inspections of various firearms to collect data for verification, testing, and tracking. Test fire various firearms to collect physical evidence for data analysis.   Support and enter information into the eTrace database.  Conduct and support eTrace investigations for firearm ownership.  Work with the CGIC team and support the cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).   

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essentialfunctions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation.

  1. Review firearm data for accuracy; physically examine firearms for manufacture information; enter required data into the eTrace database. 
  2. Perform eTrace investigations on firearms to determine original owner and subsequent transfer information. 
  3. Assist higher level supervisory or management staff  with preparation of firearms, site maintenance, records keeping, instrument maintenance, data entry and replenishing supplies as needed.   
  4. Prepare and maintain a variety of technical reports and files in assigned program area. 
  5. Maintain supplies and equipment for the Firearms and eTrace sections; order supplies as needed. 
  6. Provide general clerical support to administrative staff  as needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Attend training classes related to assigned duties and responsibilities as is necessary. 
  2. Coordinate information sharing as necessary with state and federal authorities related to the eTrace responsibilities. 
  3. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice; and 

Three (3) years of experience in maintaining records and performing data entry.

Experience in a scientific laboratory preferred.
 
 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 
 
 Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.  
 Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
 Successful completion of the APD Firearms Safety Course within six (6) months from date of hire.Environmental:
 Laboratory and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to potentially hazardous chemical and human body fluids; exposure to computer screens.
 
 Physical:
 Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light lifting, walking, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
