Description
The UK renewable energy market is moving quickly, but securing viable grid connections remains one of the biggest challenges facing new projects.
We are looking to speak with experienced grid professionals who can help move solar, battery energy storage and other low-carbon infrastructure projects from early-stage assessment through to connection and delivery.
Based in Bristol, this position would suit someone who enjoys combining detailed technical work with commercial awareness and stakeholder management. You will be involved in shaping connection strategies, identifying risks and working closely with network operators, consultants and project teams.
What you will be doing
You will take ownership of grid-connection activities across a portfolio of renewable energy and energy storage projects.
Your work may include:
- Assessing potential connection points and available network capacity.
- Preparing and managing distribution or transmission connection applications.
- Reviewing budget estimates, connection offers and technical requirements.
- Identifying reinforcement works, programme risks and potential project constraints.
- Coordinating power-system studies and specialist technical assessments.
- Working with development teams to evaluate new project locations.
- Engaging with network operators, technical consultants and other external stakeholders.
- Supporting commercial reviews, due diligence and project acquisitions.
- Tracking regulatory changes and developments within the UK electricity network.
- Presenting technical findings in a clear and practical way to non-technical colleagues.
What we are looking for
You should have professional experience within grid connections, power systems, electricity networks or a closely related area.
A strong candidate is likely to bring:
- Experience working on renewable energy, battery storage or power infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of UK distribution or transmission connection processes.
- Experience reviewing connection offers, technical studies or connection agreements.
- An understanding of grid capacity, electrical-network constraints and reinforcement requirements.
- Confidence dealing with network operators, consultants and internal project stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering, power systems or a related discipline.
Additional experience that would be valuable includes:
- Transmission-connected renewable energy or storage projects.
- Battery energy storage system development.
- Power-system modelling and analysis.
- Knowledge of the UK Grid Code and relevant engineering standards.
- Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration.
Why consider this opportunity?
This is an opportunity to work at the point where engineering, project development and commercial decision-making come together.
You will be able to influence projects from an early stage, contribute to connection strategy and help overcome some of the most important technical challenges affecting the energy transition.
The role is based in Bristol, with hybrid working potentially available. Candidates based elsewhere in the South West or within a reasonable travelling distance may also be considered.
A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered according to experience.
Applications are welcomed from experienced grid professionals who are actively considering a move, as well as those who would like to discuss suitable current or upcoming opportunities confidentially.
