Job Details
ChristianaCare is seeking a dependable and service-oriented Environmental Services Technician to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and caregivers. In this role, you will be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting patient care and non-patient care areas, managing waste and linen removal, replenishing supplies, and supporting infection prevention and safety standards throughout the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain patient rooms, offices, public spaces, and ancillary hospital areas in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Clean, disinfect, and service precaution/isolation rooms in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
- Collect and remove trash and soiled linen from assigned areas.
- Transport bulk trash to designated compactor areas.
- Replenish paper products, soap, and other essential supplies throughout the hospital.
- Maintain Environmental Services carts, equipment, and storage closets in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Remove empty boxes and debris from carts, closets, and work areas.
- Respond promptly to Environmental Services phone calls, text messages, and work assignments.
- Log into required applications and ensure assigned communication devices are operational at the start of each shift.
- Attend departmental training sessions and required in-service programs.
- Report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, safety hazards, and unsafe conditions to leadership in a timely manner.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and customer-focused attitude when interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Follow all departmental safety rules, infection prevention standards, and hospital policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, especially regarding patient information.
- Ability to use smartphones, PDAs, or mobile devices for job assignments and communication.
- Ability to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and professional appearance.
- Strong customer service and teamwork skills.
Preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently and follow established processes.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage assigned responsibilities efficiently.
- Basic technology skills, including accessing email and mobile applications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning and housekeeping tasks throughout the workday.
Work Environment
- Daily interaction with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases when proper precautions are not followed.
- Safety glasses must be worn at all times.
- Must adhere to all infection prevention, safety, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
