General Notes

Texas Robotics is an interdisciplinary program composed of 18 core robotics faculty from the Departments of Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics. At Texas Robotics we perform groundbreaking research, deliver transformative education, and make a broad positive impact through community outreach. We are passionate about advancing key areas such as long-term autonomy, robot manipulation, medical robotics, and human-robot interaction, with crosscutting emphasis on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and societal impacts—all while drawing on the breadth of expertise at UT Austin.

This position offers a lot of opportunities to expand your skills, knowledge, and ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders including students, staff, faculty, industry affiliates, and community members. It's suited for someone who likes customer service, event logistics, problem-solving and has the ability to work independently as well as on a team, multi-task, create and document work processes, and stay organized.

Purpose

Texas Robotics is seeking an undergraduate Student Associate to provide event support, perform various administrative tasks, and to lead tours of our research facility. The majority of Texas Robotics operations are located in Anna Hiss Gymnasium (AHG), although you may find yourself completing work in the Gates-Dell Complex (GDC), the Engineering Education and Research Center (EER) and/or other buildings on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an official ambassador for Texas Robotics.
  • Lead weekly tours of Anna Hiss Gym and be well versed in our research lab spaces and academic programming.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a welcoming front desk presence for all visitors.
  • Assist in various administrative projects for Texas Robotics such as making gift bags, name tags, event layouts, completing swag inventory, etc.
  • Assist with general event needs such as setting up and tearing down, moving tables/chairs, moving boxes or other event collateral, accepting catering deliveries, setting out catering, and cleaning up after the event.
  • Attend and provide hands-on support to various Texas Robotics events and tabling opportunities. Past large events include the annual Texas Symposium, Robot Halloween, Robot Parade, UT STEM Girl Day, and various robotics socials. Other events include the Texas Robotics minor info sessions, a community wide welcome event, and events associated with the new undergraduate Honors Program and its Living Learning Community component (LLC).

Your duties are likely to evolve as you gain experience within the building and programming. This is a long-term opportunity that will lead into future semesters (depending on performance). Please note that your weekly hours might vary over the semester depending on workload and event schedules since some of our events are during evening hours and possibly on a weekend. The position is well-suited for a person who is a productive self-starter, resourceful, and customer service-oriented. We'd like you to be someone who enjoys learning, documenting, problem-solving, and is hard-working.

  • Must be available to work 11am-1pm on Tuesdays and 11am-4pm on Fridays.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
