Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Associate Managing Editor and oversee the work of student employees and occasional freelance copyeditors.
  • Maintain and update journal websites and support outreach efforts through social media and other communication channels.
  • Manage financial transactions, budget monitoring, reporting, contracts, and payments in partnership with the ILR Finance Office.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records related to journal operations, circulation, budgets, acceptance rates, and special issues.

  • Exceptional editing, proofreading, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with a diverse international network of editors, authors, reviewers, and colleagues.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional phone and e-mail etiquette; most of the position's communications take place through e-mail and Zoom meetings.
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • A history of strong attention to detail and ability to organize large quantities of information for distribution to and use by others.
  • Patience and meticulousness.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and logic to anticipate and solve problems independently that may be urgent, sensitive, or confidential in nature.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Adaptability to changes in routine.
  • Comprehension of basic mathematics and logic.
  • Expertise in using electronic files.
  • Proficiency with the Internet and e-mail.
  • Experience with various software packages, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) and Portable Document Format (PDF).
  • General database operating knowledge; for spreadsheets and databases, this position primarily uses Excel and Google but is not limited to that.
  • Ability to learn how to navigate in and use online interfaces: e.g., ScholarOne’s SAGE Track (for submission management and online publication) and the journal’s webpages on the ILR School’s Drupal-based website.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines.
